We saw relational value because they felt they could care for the puppies. Their self-efficacy or belief in their ability to train the dogs increased. Because the puppies stayed with a specific inmate in their cell, they felt they had control of the project.

They began to really reflect on self-image and you could even see them starting to shift this thinking

In order to feel self-efficacy and and growth mindset, they had the support of the trainers in working with the puppies
