Watson and Crick were the first scientists to win the race to compile a model of DNA. Other scientists before like Phoebus Levene had proved that DNA was made up of nucleotides. These nucleotides were composed of deoxyribose sugar that was connected to either adenine, cytosine, guanine, or thymine. Watson and Crick were just simply the scientists who were able to put all of the different pieces together to form a model of DNA.
