Answer 2-3 of the following questions about your own elementary/middle school: 1.How supportive and caring were most of the teachers? 2. Did you feel a sense of safety from violence and bullying? 3. How connected did most students feel to the school? 4. Was your school culturally diverse? If so, did everyone feel welcomed and celebrated?

1. Most of my teachers were supportive and caring by making themselves available to me when I needed help or had a question. I also remember some of my teachers asking about my after-school events which showed that they cared about my life outside of school in addition to in school.

I came from a school climate that was supportive and encouraging of students whole self. They had diversity nights and different events to include parents and students in the whole experience. I remember feeling welcomed, but I also was less aware of the other cultures around me. Unfortunately, thinking back, the school was very tailored to the majority.

1. How supportive and caring were most of the teachers?
Looking back to my elementary school, most teachers were VERY supportive and caring. They were warm, creative, and went above and beyond to ensure that the kids felt comfortable and happy.

2. How connected did most students feel to the school?
-Although I obviously can't speak for everyone, there did seem to be an overall sense of comfort and connection among the students at my elementary school. There were many different groups, clubs, and activities for kids to join (not try-out) as well as various opportunities for social interactions.

3. Was your school culturally diverse?
-The unfortunate part about my elementary school was that it was not particularly diverse. It would have been beneficial for students to form friendships and see the valuable differences between one another. Because there was very little diversity, I think it made it difficult for a student who was of a different background and that it unfortunate. Not that any specific negative actions took place, but I can imagine it was not the most comfortable situation for the student.

As an incoming student from a different country, many teachers made me feel very welcome with open arms and lots of patience with my language barrier.

2. My first elementary school in the United States made me feel very safe and protected from any sort of danger. As a little second grader, I never had to worry about any dangerous or even think about them.

4. The school I attended was culturally diverse with an amazing ESL program. Students and teachers made students from new places, or immigrants feel very welcome, as well as supported academically and socially. Teachers made it a big deal that there were students from other countries in the classes, which made new students feel very special and involved in the classroom.
