My proudest moment was when I managed to finish my final dish during practical test. Before I finished, I was doubtful of my dish as when I practised it at home, the measurements were inaccurate and I exceed the time limit by a lot. I thought of changing the dish, but I decided to challenge myself and continued on with it. I was actually not sure whether it would come out successful, but I decided to believe in myself and have confidence. I thought through the process thoroughly and noted every single small steps to take during the actual practical. I also tried my best to think of creative plating with the help of research. At the end, I was able to finish it in time and my final dish seemed alright. I was proud of this as it was almost my first time making a dish alone by my self, and I had put in a lot of effort to prepare for it. However, when I received negative comments on my plating, I was a little disheartened, but I thought back on my process and realised that I was actually not prepared enough. Upon realisation, I was not disheartened any more, and I learned that getting feedbacks would really help me grow and I learned to be open-minded to feedbacks. I was indeed proud of myself for this realisation and I felt that I myself have grown after going through this experience.

With respect to my goals, what was my greatest challenge?

My greatest challenge was managing my time well, and being organised. During the first few cooking session, I realised that I had a hard time finishing everything in the given time. Sometimes it was because I could not remember the steps clearly and I wasted time thinking about I was supposed to do next. Another reason was because during the session, I did not think forward and I kept mistaking that there was nothing else I had to do, and hence I would waste time doing nothing, and realise that I was supposed to do something at the end of the session, which led to exceeding the time given. I hence realised that I should make sure not to waste any time. Another challenge was to be organised. I tended to skip several small steps as I forgot them, and this led me to go back to one step which caused me to be confused and waste time. I feel the variety shown in the artwork makes it fascinating, but it is rather messy.

I think the roughness of the peanut is portrayed well in this work as the charcoal was often used by its side. The patterns on it is also delicate, and it adds up to the variety.

I can learn from others that the erasers can be used for drawing and making marks, rather than just erasing. I can also learn that experimenting without fear of failure is a good way to make a good piece of art. The habits of mind that I used during this process were observing, expressing, and stretch and explore. I had to focus on observing the actual peanut very closely and express the texture, shape and everything from this observation to the drawing. Other than painting, she uses photos, paper, strings, clay
and even a stone. This makes the artwork look more three-dimensional. She also ripped off the canvas, which too gave a three-dimensional figure. She also used a variety of colours, as well as shapes.

I think she painted her own brain, consisting of her own emotions and personal things. I think the left side of her brain shows her creativity as it has a variety of colours and shapes, especially in the strips of paper above. The photo of herself depicts that she feels happy and that she has a playful personality. I think the cockroach she painted represents fear, the blue wave as sadness, the red star and dots as anger, the yellow-red strokes as joy, and a solar-system-like figure as confusion. One the other hand, I think the right brain shows her knowledge and memory. The strings that are mingled around with ambiguous numbers written around represents her knowledge, as well as the stone written 'knowledge'. I think the hole at the bottom represents her flaws, or difficulties, as it is black and the way the hole is created seems as if air is leaking out. She used several colours (pink and orange) to colour the brain, and it seems more realistic.

I am puzzled about what the strings and the hole means. I learnt that we should be practical. We wanted to play songs we wanted, but we had to give up some of them as we knew that the chords were too hard and we would not be able to finish playing. We also had to decide on our rhythm that is nice but not too difficult as some of us had a hard time to follow. I learnt from this that it is important to aim for something that can stretch us, but not too hard. This also links to time management, where we had to be practical so that we would be well-prepared before the deadline.

I learnt that it is important to plan well, as it took a lot of time to compose music, and there were a lot of steps needed to be taken to do so. I learnt that it is very critical to balance between time management and creativity. I should not take too long to generate creative ideas until it makes me difficult to finish in time.
