The five principles of Modernism

1) Symbolic and personal meaning

Post-Impressionists rely on color and shape to explore the nature. They focus on abstract form and pattern of their paintings. Symbolic and highly personal meanings are very important to Post-Impressionists.The famous Post-Impressionists are Vincent Van Gogh (1853-1890), Paul Gauguin (1848-1903), Paul Cezanne (1839-1906), and Georges Seurat (1859-1891).

2) Colorful

Orphism is the root in abstraction and Orphism artists apply many colors to give their artworks a lively movement like music. Orphism artists explores the effects of color and light when they apply them on their painting. The famous Orphism artists are Frank Kupka (1871-1957), Francis Picabia (1879-1953), Jean Metzinger (1883-1956), and Robert Delaunay (1885-1941).

3) Wonderful nature

Land art or Earth art is an art movement that use landscape to create artworks. Land artists use materials, such as stones, water, gravel, and soil to create artworks and shows the beauty of nature. Land artists often honor the constructed site by creating artworks build from damaged site. The famous Land artists are Robert Smithson (1938-1973), Michael Heizer (1944-), Andy Goldsworthy (1956-), and Richard Long (1945-).

4) Interesting

Pop Artists work in many different styles to celebrate popular culture by using advertisement, comics, and photographs. Pop artists enjoy describing the wonder of the technologies and popular cultures. The well-known Pop artists are Andy Warhol (1928-1987), Roy Lichtenstein (1923-1997), Richard Hamilton (1922-2011), and Wayne Thiebaud (1920-).

5) Expressing their emotion

Expressionists often use symbolic colors and swirling brushstrokes to reflect the anxieties of the world. Expressionists’ goal is not to show the world’s surroundings, but to express their emotional experience of the world. The Expressionism artists are Ernst Ludwig (1880-1938), Edvard Munch (1863-1944), Wassily Kandinsky (1866-1944), and Emil Nolde (1867-1956).

Excellent job, Katie. Now what might work better is to think of images that connect to your principles rather than to art movements. I certainly see how your art works reflect your principles, but it would be better to say something like "art works that illustrate wonderful nature are" and then provide the images.
EC 6 Dec
