Board of Education was a landmark case in the U.S. civil rights movements. Black lives and equality were being violated. The accommodations provided to Black people were far below the standard provided to white people in a segregated America. During the decades after the U.S. Civil War, the divisions of white and free Black populations were starkly evident. Segregation in public education violated the Constitution's guarantee of equal protections of the laws.

Thurgood Marshall shook the pillars of segregation in announcing its new and resounding principle that "separate is inherently unequal." They argued that only 14% of white students attended to schools with at least 3 races. While nearly 40% of both Black and Latino students attend intensely segregated schools with a 90-100% minority student population. Almost all Black and Latino students attend schools in which 3 quarters or more students are poor. They also said that no one benefits from such radical re-segregation. For the reasons that the isolation of White students prevents them from those with different backgrounds. It can make it more difficult for them to understand those who are different from themselves or to learn how to thrive in racially diverse setting as adults.
