It was founded by a man named Henry Gerber in 1924. He was a German immigrant who lived in Chicago. The organization was influenced by a German doctor who worked with the  Scientific-Humanitarian Committee. The Stonewall Inn was a bar thought to be a safe space for people in the LGBTQ community, welcoming people in drag, gay people, and the homeless, and it was owned by the Mafia meaning ¨police were paid to look the other way.¨ In June of 1969 the police raided the bar and arrested bartenders and people dressed in drag. The second raid people started to fight back, causing an uprising in the fight for gay rights. After his death people started to get more involved in helping the LGBTQ community with equality, so much so that the Prevention Act of 2009 was passed, preventing hate crimes against a person sexuality, or specific things about them. In 2003 Massachusetts was the first state to legalize it. There was a major set back when president Bush talked about how he opposed same sex marriage. Trump during his reign basically tweeted that trans people would not be allowed in the military. He sent this order to the Supreme court and they approved it on April 12th 2019. Many states tried to stop the ban but in the end Trump won.
