In 2016, my family (mom, dad, brother, sister) came to California because it's really nice and sunny. We also needed to know if we would get jobs and a house. We ended up driving for 11 days in a hot cramped car through the desert.

She didn't have any way of reaching her friends from there, she just had to hope they were fine. A lot of her friends that said they would move to the US never did come, and there is no way that my grandma could know they are still alive.
When we moved, the elections were going on. My mother didn't have her green card, so she needed to go back to Canada to get to vote.
