David Abebrese: I have followed closely Friedman's assessment that the world is flat and along with the illustrations given, I agree with him. The lecture he gave was really eye opening. The emphasis he laid on the world getting narrower and individuals developing the capacity to globalize their content is verified by commonplace observation of how technology in recent times has made the world a tiny place to live in with individuals being able to compete and collaborate without boundaries. I really took note of the progression from countries to organizations and now individuals being the engineers as far as competition and establishment is concerned. The historical background he provided with the introduction of the personal computer to the rise of Netscape and their IPO with investments into fiber optics laying the ground for workflow revolution and the convergence of all these points empowering individuals to horizontalize and make relevant strides in their endeavors seals the argument that indeed the world is flat. The world is basically flat because there is a level platform where anyone with the capacity to win with their imagination can get the world's attention and possibly win its approval in the process. Personally growing up in the last decade, I have witnessed inventions and business startups that have been successful as a result of tactfully using this platform to their advantage. Social media building on the horizontal phase of communication has enabled organizations such as Facebook and Twitter not only survive but command influence globally.

Brian King: After
viewing Friedman's lecture the world is flat 3.0, he brings up a number of
interesting points. I think the biggest point he brings up as he said is
"plug, play, compete, connect and collaborate,". I could not agree
more that in today’s age people are able to get their thoughts and views out
faster than ever before. There is no longer a lag time for questions, answers
and information to be shared as there was prior to the digital age. I think a
great example as Dave brought up is the use of both twitter and Facebook. With
using these applications a person is able to share their thoughts, views or
even ask a question and instantly get an answer of feedback from anywhere
in the world. With using his analogy that the world is flat I would have
to agree. In many cases it puts everyone on a equal playing field in terms
of disturbing, sharing and obtaining information. A great example is how
people have used Instagram and a platform to showcase a product that they are
selling. They are able to essentially for little or no cost at all
advertise their product on an international level. There are a
number of examples of how people have been using these applications to their
advantage.

After watch Friedman's lecture I have really come to understand exactly how the world has become "flat". I was enlightened but the facts and history he laid out in his lecture; and completely agree with his conclusion. I really could appreciate his assessment on horizontal interaction vs vertical interaction and the effect it has had on several things. Education as he said is a field that has greatly benefited from this both students and teachers alike. The very applications we are using to complete this assignment are examples. We were able to view a lecture without actually being there; and then submit a written assignment for our instructor to view. When I was in elementary school; there was paper and pencils available for assignments; as time has progressed so many different tools have transformed my educational experience. I watch my God children; who attend a school that allows them to access some assignments on a portal, allows parents to contact teachers, and monitor their child's progress all from a smart phone. Several other things we used regularly are benefiting from horizontal interaction; paying bills, buying/selling products, sharing information/data, etc. The world has truly become flat; I believe it has mostly beneficial outcomes. Social Media has created instant celebrity for many, made instant billionaires, and allowed many ideas never possible to become global business almost overnight. Think of Amazon, Facebook, Twitter, etc all benefiting from the world gradually becoming flat.

Like Brian said, I really agree with the "connect and collaborate " I too believe communicating and networking is at the tip of our fingers with this day and age's use of social media and the internet. Now a days there is no wait period for receiving feedback and answers. Like what he said with Facebook and twitter, we have these applications that gives us the ability to communicate, share your pictures or ideas with, and ask questions from anyone all over the world. With his statement of "the world being flat" I agree with what he is saying because we are all on the same ground with the same equal opportunities. We all have they internet at our fingertips world wide. Social medias can be used as free networking and advertising. Companies do not have to spend the time and money having website if they use a free Facebook page instead. Small and large companies can benefit from this and all having equal opportunity.

After viewing Brian Friedmans The World is Flat 3.0, I agree with his points. I believe he is showing how humanity is completely interconnected using Internet and how things are oversimplified because of this. He went through explaining the different phases of how globalization of countries led to the globalization of companies, then the globalization of individuals. In the present individuals are completely interconnected at the touch of a button. Between social media and other resources, we as individuals can communicate and collaborate with other individuals allover the world with zero obstacles. I compare it to my own experience and education; I went from using a library and paper and pencil to being able to communicate with my fellow students and professor via the Internet.

Friedman made several good points about what he has "discovered" about the world being flat. I agree that our world is better when its "flat". We are able to connect individually like he said instead of everyone being whole. One statement he made that I really held on to was, "we have gone from a world where value was created in vertical silos of command and control, to a world where value is being created horizontally on this platform by who you connect and collaborate with". This helped me understand what he meant when he said "the world is flat". It is not physically "all the same", rather it is no longer about being controlled and following commands. it is not about being an individual and making connections on this "platform" that has been created to make interconnectivity easier in the business world. I do agree with his assessment of the world being flat and I think it helps our world from a business perspective. Being able to do things as an individual and make your own connections helps the business world expand quicker and further to make it more diverse instead of everyone targeting the same things together.

The lecture is interesting and brings out, how the education is benefited from the new era of technology. People are interconnected and acknowledge to each other in different ways. Teacher and students are no need to be at one place, they might be in different locations, yet can virtually interact in real time. Lots of people also made huge amount of money by doing business of sales, marketing, trading, and many other services. I also agree with equal opportunity we all get to prove ourself.

I agree with Friedman that the world is flat because the issue of technologies has changed the way we do things, communicate, and remote development. We are able to connect, work and communicate knowledge with each other in the world without seeing each other. The internet of things has changed the way we do things making us to depend on the internet for everything . Globalization and technologies has fundamentally reshaped our lives and businesses especially with the issue of businesses outsourcing their work and software to other companies overseas.
