I learned a lot about the archaeology and artifacts of ancient China. I thought it was very interesting how they used to inscribe records on tortoise shells called Jiaguwen. It is similar to the Egyptian's papyrus or Prehistoric cave paintings. I was also astounded by the advancement of technology to create the sword of King Goujian; it has not rusted at all. Are the chime bells, bianzhong, taught to music students today? It seems to be as important as learning the history of music in China like how we study Bach and Beethoven in America. Also, I am impressed with the skill to sew individual piece of jade to create ellaborate suits for the deceased Liu Sheng, Prince Jing of Zhongshan and Dou Wan.

I knew the Chinese wore their finest clothes out of silk or etc and the kings were buried with treasurers and gold for their afterlife to be well. I wonder how long it takes them to make these corpses covers?
I really wanted to visit the Terracotta warriors ever since I heard of them from my Chinese school teacher! This eighth wonder was discovered when my mom was 4 but this was made in the Qin dynasty!!! That's crazy!!!

The section about the chime bells was interesting how they had different sized bells and how that changed the pitch that they created. There were 64 bells made out of wood. How do they create the sound while being made out of wood? This has been one of my favorite sections that we've covered so far.

As rich in history and culture as China is, the unfortunate reality of Chinese history is that the Maoist regime made it a political point to white wash Chinese culture. This process involved the destruction and erasure of countless artifacts, writings, and records dating back thousands of years. While there are still many preserved artifacts in places like the Forbidden City and national museums it is almost impossible to know how much material culture is forever lost to the annals of history. Even today we may never know how the ancient Chinese could cut jade without the use of alloys, or the means by which China could produce folded steel that has endured for 2,000 years, before the Japanese or even the Europeans. Such information is now lost for all eternity. With this discussion post I don't mean to deride the topic, nor to offend the Chinese peoples, but cultural relics ought to be preserved despite political upheaval. The Communist Party of China disgraced their own history in order to usurp power and control, thus robbing their citizens of their own history, How's that for inquiring about ding?

What we studied was that it was amazing that people back then in this time boud carve something this tough in such careful detail. In addition, did you know the terracotta warrios, all had different faces? I think this speaks to how well developed China was during this time. To be able to put personality to each of the warriors. But what I found the most intersting was the Changxin Palace Lamp, it's innovative! It's cool to see the sleeve would move the smoke so it wont' pollute the air; a great function and design.

This paragraph really stood out to me because Indian people treasure gold just as much as Chinese people treasure Jade. Like the Chinese Culture, we too make carvings and figurines except from gold. This similarity really stood out to me because I remembered going to the VMFA and seeing many beautiful Jade figurines and insignias when in the Asian art section. They were very beautiful and one could tell they required a lot of craftsmanship to make.

It is incredible that some of the relics reveal 3,000 to 5,000 years of history. I enjoyed reading the most about the Terracotta Warriors. Also known as the 8th wonder of the world, these warrior statues were discovered in 1974. I found it impressive that most of the 8,000 life like soldiers are still in tact. I think that the Chinese military was held to a very high value during this time, and these statues were made to resemble the strength and resilience of the Chinese warriors, which is evident as they have withstood the tests of time.

But as the years past Koreans founded a coin just like the Chinese and start exchanging for the coin. Also I was very interested about the "The Great Bell of Yongle". This is a huge bell located in Beijing and each year they ring the bell to celebrate the New Year's Eve. In Korea, there is also the same thing and it is called "제야의 종" and it is located in Seoul, we also hit the bell to celebrate the New Year's Eve when the clock hits the Midnight.

China is a vey big country and people of from different places have absolutely different knowledge about daily life. Especially, I'm excited to know more about Jade Suit Sewn with Gold Thread and Duhuang Mogao Grottoes. Those are the topics that I really want to know more and still have little understanding about it.

I thought it was interesting to read about the findings of jade related relics form Ancient China. I had no idea that China held jade in such a high regard. Or as the passage says, "Gold has value; jade is invaluable". It was also surprising to learn that they even attempted to sew jade into clothing at one point. However it was banned and I wonder why it was banned? Maybe because jade is so valuable that it's wasteful to use in clothing. Or maybe because it made it hard to move in clothing like that. I think jade is really pretty and I would, if I had money, totally buy something with jade on or in it.

It was very interesting to read about cultural relics. I am currently in an Art History class, so reading this chapter made me look forward to learning about East Asian art. In this section, I learned that the rulers of the Shang Dynasty were very superstitious and predictions were carved on tortoise shells and animal bones. With information recorded on the shells and bones, information on Chinese politics, economics, and culture was obtained. Also I learned, that the famous statues I constantly see in movies are called the Terracotta Warriors. The Terracotta Warriors and Horses were used as burial objects for the emperor.

I had an archeology class last semester. I am really surprised at how will developed the Chinese culture was even back then. For example, I am puzzled at the Jiguwen’s ability to already have complex writing and the Shang Dynasty’s skill of using bronze. I actually saw some of the Terracotta Warrior and Horses. It was amazing that so many were made and just buried for such a long time. None of the warriors had the exact same face which was crazy. I feel like a lot of the Chinese relics shows the society of that time or there history. For example, it shows there currency, hierarchy, values and skills.

I think that the terracotta warriors really show off how accomplished China had become under the first Qin emperor; with over 8,500 figures, the workers developed an early assembly-line production system using molds to create the faces and bodies of the different figures. According to wikipedia, at least 10 different face molds were used. This, to me, shows a productive efficiency almost entirely unknown to the world at that point and really celebrates the position the Chinese were in compared to the Greek or Roman civilizations at the time
