Students who have moved from: one country to another, one school to another, one house to another or even one town to another will be able to put themselves in the shoes of Hanna and how she feels. Students will be able to think back to a time when they had someone help make a new place feel like "home" sort of like Mormor did for Hanna. This book will also challenge students to think about how they can make a new classmate/neighbor/teammate etc feel welcomed and celebrated!

The Day The Crayons Quit

While this book doesn't relate to my thematic research topic, it is one of my absolute favorite books to teach students how to see things from another perspective. Not only is this book pretty comical, the crayons claims are rather rational and students will be able to stop and say, "oh yeah, I do use blue for big color projects such as the ocean and sky. I bet he is tired." Not only that but it is a super easy book to implement into readers theatre. Students can take on the life of a mentioned crayon and act them out. I just think this is such a sweet book that I couldn't list these resources without mentioning it!

This book takes empathy to another level by making students relate to inanimate objects and seeing the world from their point of view. What color would students like to be if they could become a crayon? Why did they choose that specific color? Why not another one?
