These readings will combine with daily, routinized work with fresh ‘a’ and ‘e’ spelling words, fresh grammar with different nouns and pronouns, continued suffix work, and a light addition of dictionary skills. Our writing work will live in a journal building a “unit dictionary” notebook, quick writes responding to illustrations and prompts, with extended critical responses combined with “Around the Table” writing/sharing activities. 

The Unit Assessment looks at their skills of plot analysis and sequencing, identifying character details, summarization of a selection, point of view with a specific character, grammatical revisions of specific sentences, and defining a work by putting it into the context of the sentence. The short critical writings both ask for an examination of characters from the readings and motivations that could be found therein.

It also challenges the misconception that Native Americans were one unified group by highlighting different tribes and their distinct ways of life. The unit weaves in literature, historical events, and writing skills to help students build a well-rounded understanding of Native American history.

Big Picture: students will be able to gain a better understanding of earth as it pertains to theories and how it is structured.

Students will be required to build knowledge on earth and its geological theories and how it is structured.

This unit will focus heavily on the students making inferences and providing evidence support appropriate responses

Most of the TEKS are centered around identification, cause and effect, predictions and realtionships.

I will give attention to students being able to make connection between text and illustrations, cause and effect, character analysis .

The big picture of the Unit 8 is for the kiddos to learn and have a good understanding about the Native Americans through fiction. I am noticing a heavy push for the students to really go back into the text for understanding.

The Big picture and Focus of Unit 8 are Native Americans culture. This unit is a realistic fictional piece that our students will be introduced to for the 1st time. Through this unit students will be able to learn more about this culture if they don't know have prior knowledge. Students will be introduced to some good vocabulary, and learn some good social studies information as well.

The arc of learning of this unit consists of students doing a lot of the heavy lifting with their writing through the various prompts throughout the unit.

The tasks and skills build on each other because they go from simple to complex as far as how the activities are introduced in the book.

The teks  3.9Di, 3.9Diii, 3.10A. 3.10B are being spiraled and assessed throughout the unit through exit tickets and worksheets in the activity book.

This unit give students the opportunity to build content knowledge and draw connections to Social Studies by holding class discussions to support cross-curricular connections.

Students will get practice writing in a variety of ways build content vocabulary and use of context cluses. Students will understand the point of view from realistic fiction texts and identify how events are connected through the central idea supporting details.
