It is also mentioned in source 7 that the houses didn't have an effective rubbish system, which meant that the rubbish was in rotting piles in courtyards and streets. There was also very poor ventilation since the houses were so close together it was difficult to get fresh air. If you were living near the river Thames, the foul smell would not be healthy, and using it for cleaning, bathing, cooking, etc can be really harmful to somebody. Living next to the cotton mills would be just as bad.  Like how it says in the slide before,By 1860s, nearly all workshops and factories were powerd by coal- burning steam engines, so the tall chimneys belched out smike all day, everyday. They had the supply of water for every chore in the house for example ; washing clothes , washing utensils , taking bath , and even taking water for making food . They had the same supply for every regular requirement in their house . The germs in the river slowly started to spread through this unfiltered and unhygienic water .
