Bruch, B. My personal favorite is the Madonna of the Meadow, because it looks like such a soft and idyllic moment. I enjoy the use of muted and cool background colors that draw the viewers eye to the warmth of Mary and the children. The triangular composition in this piece is beautiful as well, and perfectly guides the viewer’s eye to the three figures in this piece.

My favorite work is shown here, the Holy Family for the Canigani's. I personally like this painting a lot due to the vibrant but almost muted colors of the figures clothing compared to the sky and the landscape behind them. The look on the faces of Elizabeth and infant John the Baptist look almost scared, but also inquisitive, while Mary and Joseph seem remorseful and caring. I love the image of all the angels in the sky looking over the people, as it seems to me that Rafael wanted convey to the viewer that God is always looking down on us.

My favorite piece is the Canigiani Holy Family. In this piece I love seeing the vibrant but almost muted colors of their clothing, as I think it contrasts the heavens and the blue sky behind them nicely. I also love the look on Elizabeth and baby John the Baptist faces as they seem almost scared or confused, while also inquisitive and intrigued compared to the somber and more nonchalant look of Joesph and Mary. I especially love the baby angels up in the heavens as well. They seem to show a remorseful yet caring look on their faces, which makes me think that Rafael wanted to invoke the feeling of faith and devotion to God through these angels always looking down on us.

I chose this piece because the observer can sense the warmth in the painting - warmth between the virgin mother and baby Jesus and the warmth between Jesus and the carnation. The carnation symbolizes Jesus' future sacrifice and his acceptance of it. Both the mother and baby are brightly colored but the room is not. There are many browns, reds, and yellows. The focus is clearly on the mother and child, as they are in the foreground, yet they do not make eye contact.

My favorite of these paintings is the Alba Madonna. I was originally drawn to this painting due to the brighter colors used. I feel like the more saturated pinks, blues, and tans really make each individual thing pop rather than having them more diluted. I also love how Raphael composed the piece- the figures are sort of lined up and their heads lead down to the left in a diagonal. I feel like there is something about that shape that leads the viewers eyes through the painting nicely. Lastly, I think it’s interesting how they all have very different expressions on their face, it drives the viewers to think about each person’ s point of view.

The stretch of Madonna’s left foot was a lighting part for this image to balance the figures for making a triangle composition, and Raphael's soft lines and pure white showed the figure's elegant and divine nature.

I like this masterpiece not only about the mature art technique of perspectives but also the spiritual divine it brings to me; the devout shows one ear’s culture, which is the precious part that cannot be found in today’s art.

My favorite of The Madonna is the "La Madonna Tempi" because of the motherly emotion on her face. Her soft smile as she holds him close to her face and chest is very beautiful and really captures the innocents of a mother's love for her child. The sfumato also brings a soft and gentle hue that adds to the softness of the loving scene. I also really like how the colors she wears are not as bright, drawing the attention to the two rather than being a distraction.

This Madonna was one of my favorites, La Belle Jardiniere means "The beautiful Gardener". As we can see the three depicted in this scene are Madonna with Saint John the baptist on the bottom right hand side and Christ on the left. The three are surrounded with flowers that are painted with muted colors so to make sure we focus on the trio above. What I really liked about this piece is the great use of shadowing used when painting the bodies making this a very three dimensional piece. I also enjoyed the body language being portrayed. We can see how Christ and Madonna are looking back at each other as he leans into her dress and she supports him by holding him to her while Saint John the Baptist looks at Christ lovingly while taking a knee toward him.

One of my favorites, Madonna in the Meadow. A beautiful painting (oil on wood) where the Madonna is sitting, in front of her she is supporting the infant Jesus with both hands, she looks at Jesus’s cousin and playmate—John the Baptist who is engaged with the young Christ. Raphael chooses a geometrical structure: Mary with the children that form a wedge shape embracing the subject of the painting and draws the viewers eye to examine the three. The subject is painted with rich, intense colors, and beautiful details and many fine details in the halos, the neckline in Mary’s color. I appreciate Raphel’s use of atmospheric perspective (the softness and less intense colors in the back). Mary is depicted as a young, caring, calm and nurturing mother while the two cousins play in what seems to be a serene and beautiful environment.

As mentioned in the video, the common theme in the Madonnas of Raffaello was the figure of the Virgin Mary appearing infront of a natural landscape showing "affectionate gestures aimed at children (infant Jesus)". My favorite of Raffaelo's Madonnas is the "Piccola Cowper Maddona". In this painting, a vast landscape is shown in the background with a small castle to the back right. The virgin is seen sitting in a very peaceful and calm posture holding a playful infant. The tone of colors are used to focus the viewer's attention away from the background and to the virgin and the infant. The tones of green, brown, and blue in the background are faint, while the tones of the red, blue, and brown for the virgin and the infant are vibrant. This contrasting use of tone puts the viewer's attention on the lady and the infant.

In this painting we see the Virgin Mary with a bright red dress and a dark blue cover on her legs which we have seen the Virgin Mary with that color many times because it is used as a way to gather attention to her just like the bright red dress here. The infant while being naked still has a bright glow with his bright skin and hair which is another way Raphael makes both the infant and the Virgin Mary glow in contrast to their pale background.

The chiaroscuro used to contrast the elderly woman’s wrinkled wisdom from the young boy with the muscles tone in his abdomen. The less noticeable at first look sfumato used in the background for the window, still detailed enough to show the window segments but starts to become fuzzier as if peripheral vision. The artist ensured to use halos around their heads to signify their importance despite the realism technique.
