“Documentation is the process of gathering evidence and artifacts of what happen in the classroom. Documentation is not only the process of gathering evidence and artifacts, but also a physical collection of evidence and artifacts, the reflection of that collection or part of it, in a way that makes children’s learning visible to the children, to the teachers, and to the other adults, including families and visitors.”

-Carla Rinaldi (1994)

An example of such a documentation is a photo documentation where by photos are taken during an event or an activity as an evidence to see how an event or activity goes.

Photo documentation aids in helping me see how a child progresses from one activity to another and to see how they cope in completing the activity.

Through a photo, I can also take the time to properly analyse and properly understand the difficulty a child may face while completing the activity. For example, during Play Time activity, when a big and small Potato head is given to child, I was able to notice from the two photos that child has a better grip on the small Mr Potato Head rather than on a bigger one. Hence, from there, I will be able to reflect and make a mental note to provide a smaller Mr Potato Head to child so that he can be more independent in completing the small Mr Potato Head first before moving to the next one when he has better control of his two hands bilateral coordination.
