Just outside of Valguarnera, these Canadian soldiers are in position on the look out for enemies. Germans started to give respect to the Canadian soldiers as they put up good defense against them. The Canadian soldiers back then were called Mountain Boys which was stated by Field marshal Albert Kesselring. On August 17, the time Germans left Sicily, allies have marched 210 kilometers, had 2,310 casualties, and 562 who have past away. This battle was successful as Germans evacuated Sicily and Canadian soldiers marched forward. We also put up effective defense against the Germans which is something I think was a big part of winning this battle.

While escorting a German prisoner, a comrade was killed. These Canadian soldiers who are part of the Infantrymen of The Sea forth Highlanders are carrying him to the
cemetery where he can rest in peace. The battle of Ortona was a warfare surrounded by buildings and houses. Because of this, our allies created a strategy by breaking down walls with explosives, this was called mouse holing. During the battle one by one, allies returned to the outskirts where they were fed food and had rest and returned to the battle. On December 28, the Germans have finally surrendered. The idea of allies returning back to the outskirts were smart as allies would have more energy and think more clearly during the battle. Mouse holing was also a good strategy to get to their destination quicker. I believe this battle was successful as we created important strategies against the Germans and made them retreat.

These Canadian soldiers working with the Indian army has broke through the Gustav Line. During the beginning of the battle, allies had trouble getting through the Gustav line in the winter. After they have pushed through the Gustav line, they headed towards to push Hitlers line. Both lines put up strong defense. The type of defense our allies had to face were tanks, turrets, minefields and barbed wire. We were successful as we broke through the Gustav line and into Hitlers
soldiers.
Considering the enemies strong defense, we have done well against it.

There are soldiers unloading ammunition for the battle of Operation Husky. Many soldiers were young, around 18 - 24. The goal of this operation was to take over the island of Sicily During the battle, the Germans strategy was to put up defense in terrain of ridges, mountains, and rivers. The Germans fell back when allies pushed up. This operation was successful. I believe this because hundreds of thousands of allied soldiers were rescued and Germans fell back. Eventually Sicily was captured by allies and this battle was considered a victory for allies.

Soldiers on vehicles have just landed in mainland of Italy and are under shell fire. This was during the invasion and happened on September, 2018. This battle was between allies and Italy. Canadians joined the British eighth army's vanguard during the invasion. On September 8, the government of Italy surrendered and lead to allied victory. Once Germany heard about this, they rushed in to help Italy. Allies fought back and by the end of a week, the Germans fell back. This battle was very successful considering Italy's surrender. Despite having Germans intercept this, our allies did great to fight back and won.

This drawing presents the battle of allies trying to capture Rome. There was strong defense that allies had to go up against. From the bridgehead, Jack Mahony was awarded the Victoria Cross for putting up effective defense. Allies captured Ceprano which made the Germans defense weaker resulting Ceprano to be liberated. During the 3 weeks of the battle, our allies have suffered 2,500 wounded soldiers, 4,000 sick soldiers, and 800 soldiers who passed away. This was a great battle for our allies as we captured Rome and liberated Ceprano. We also weakened the Germans defense which was a big part in this battle.

The Gothic Line was a defensive line created by the Germans. In this photo, the red line represents the Gothic Line and the blue line represents the Allied Front Line. On August, allies pushed forward to the Gothic Line. On October 20, allies captured Cesena which was a city that was close to their next destination for their objective. Ernest Alvia Smith was given the Victoria Cross for taking down a German armored column. The First Canadian Corps then joined the First Canadian Army in northwest Europe. The Germans have finally surrendered on 1945. 92,757 Canadians soldiers were a part of the battles in Italy and there was 26,254 casualties. The Italian Campaign was a long battle, most or all battles were successful as our allies fought long and hard against the Germans. In the end, the Germans have lost against us and will be one of the greatest victories in history.

Hitler Line

The First Canadian Corps are advancing to the Hitler Line on May 18. Chris Vokes was the First Divisions Commander and tried to take down the Hitler Line with battalion thrusts one by one. His attempt failed and created a new plan with a 2 brigade wide assault on May 23. This plan has also failed causing 306 wounded allies, 162 allies dead, and 75 allies taken as a prisoner. Despite the fact that Chris Vokes plan failed, the third brigade called the Carleton and York Regiment was victorious against the other German lines. The remaining battalions then opened a gap through the enemies and the Fifth Canadian Armored Division progressed past through the Hitler Line. Even though the first 2 plans have failed, this battle was victorious for allies because of how many lines we took down with battalions from different divisions. The last remaining divisions have pierced through the Hitler Line and that plan was successful.

The Victoria Cross was a reward to represent someones bravery and was given to Triquet. He was awarded the Victoria Cross because he shouted out an order to his allies which helped them find the safest place for them to be in. The exact words he shouted were "The safest place for us is the objective". On December 13-14, allies took over Gully which was a deep narrow pass. Because of this, the Germans pulled back into the town of Ortona. I believe Triquet was a brave soldier who deserved the Victoria Cross for the great act he has done during the battle. Because of his actions and allies taking taking control of Gully, the Germans withdrew from Gully. This battle was considered a victory for allies.
