Good and antiquate nutrition is essential in the health of the mother.
DO'S:
- CALCIUM WHY?: Calcium is needed in high percentage intakes because of the feotus inside you, will absorb most of the calcium, therefore extra calcium intake is needed to keep the mothers (your) bones strong and healthy. fortunately, during pregnancy mothers can absorb calcium easily. EATS>>> Milk, Yogurt, Cheese
- FOLATE AND FOLIC ACID WHY?: folate and folic acid is mostly needed for the babies health , however, it is as well needed for the mothers everyday antiquate dietary requirements. TOP TIP: Ask your doctor to provide you with folate tablets when and even before your pregnant, to benefit youself and of course the fetus!
- IRON WHY?: Iron is essential for maternal health and needs to be increased during pregnancy. This is because as the fetus grows you need to increase your blood levels to meet the needs of your placenta and of course the growing feotus. Iron is also needed to reduce the risk of Aneamia. EATS>>> red meat, fish, legumes. green leafy vegetables and nuts
- IODINE WHY?: During pregnancy your iodine percentage requirements have to increase 47 percent. As well as 80 percent, during breastfeeding. This is because you need to make sure your fetus is growing at normal rate. EATS>>> Dairy, seafood and fortified breads
- ZINC WHY?: Although zinc is mostly needed for your fetuses health and development. It is needed to maintain a healthy immune system, for you and maintain your senses of taste and smell. EATS>>> red meat, fish, dairy and nuts
- PROTEIN WHY?: Protein is needed for the mother as it increases the breast tissue. EATS>>> meats, nuts, legumes etc

DONT'S:
- SALMONELLA WHAT'S THAT? salmonella is food poisoning (bacterial infection) caused by touching unhygienic animals or uncooked meat etc. Salmonella can affect your maternal health by causing major discomfort on your stomach and cause dehydration as a result from vomiting or diarrhoea. Sadly in some cases it can cause premature birth, stillbirth or a miscarriage. AVOID! contaminated food and water. plus uncooked poultry and meats
- IRON DEFICIENCY WHAT'S THAT? iron deficiency can cause anemia for pregnant women. This means that your maternal health would be low due to your body not having enough energy and may also lose a lot of blood during birth. Being anemic could mean you are at a higher risk of postpartum depression. WATCH! for your iron levels and symptoms of dizziness, tiredness etc.
- GESTATIONAL DIABETES WHAT'S THAT?
gestational diabetes occur when your hormones change causing your blood sugar levels to be high. However, because the baby has already taken the amount of sugar it needs to go on, the excess sugar is stored as fat, causing (in most cases), Gestational diabetes. RISKS>> developing type 2 diabetes after birth, miscarriage, higher chance of needing a c-section and other risks that would be determined by your doctor AVOID! excessive sugar consumption
