I think that it is not about the mistakes that have been made, but the growth and the perspective they provide you with. This is something very valuable to teach my students, especially if growth is the main goal for my classroom. I left teaching after 2 years to pursue a career in the business world. It went horribly and I realized how much I'm meant to teach. Getting back into teaching after 6 years has given me such an appreciation for my current situation, and now I'm in a great school where I will be for the next 30+ years. This is the story of my life and something I think about constantly. During my first interview for a teaching job, I had strep throat. I felt miserable and the interview was okay. It was for a district I did a lot of subbing in, but I didn't get the job. I did a lot of questioning. A few months later, I met a woman while I was working at the shoe store. She encouraged me to apply at Tech for a Reading Teacher job. Funny enough, I worked with a retired teacher at ZooAmerica at the same time. She retired from Tech. It was a coincidence. Somehow, that's where I ended up and I couldn't be happier. I also think about this on a personal level fairly regularly. What a great message!
