In the first chapter of part 2 their is a frustration mood due to the disagreement between irene and her husband on racist and negative words used by John while at the tea party with Clare. Irene is frustrated with her husband because he thinks the whole situation with Clare and her husband is funny, while Irene thinks it is awful and painful to hear as a black woman herself. her husband said that if it really bugged her she shouldve said something, but that she is passing herself so she shouldnt be so mad. he said that if John actually called her the n word than it would be different, but he finds it humerous instead. This all causes Irene to be frustrated with him because that is her husband and she thought she married a man that thought the same as her.

In part 2 of chapter 2, the mood is annoyed relating to the character of Clare. This originates from Clare's views on her own people and how she sees them as a spectacle, "Same reason you're here, so see Nword...More, to gaze on these great and near great while they gave on the "nword"(Larsen 54). This annoyance stems from Clare's view on the people as animals or an accessory to be looked at instead of viewed as a normal person.

In Chapter 2 Part 1 of Passing, the tense conversation Irene and Brian hold about their disagreement over Clare's husband creates a frustrating mood as every conversation after the next only reveal more and more how not-so-alike they are and how much they disagree on ideas. As the space in which they argue only gets smaller moving from the house to the kitchen table and then to the enclosed car, the conversation only gets more tense as they disagree with each other until they choose not to speak anymore, showing how unopen and distant they are with each other

As Irene and Brian sit down to talk about what Irene experienced at dinner, their interactions between each other are very sharp, "Her husband silenced her, saying sharply: 'Let's not talk about it, please'" (Larsen 57). This feeling of tension allows the readers to understand how differently Irene and Brian react to matters involving race.

Irene recalls the day in Chicago, which was humiliating for her because she dislikes that Clare somewhat separates herself from the Black community after marrying John and passing as white. Also, Irene feels conflicted when she hears John being racist and she doesn't stand up for her community. Irene's feelings and response to Clare's people and lifestyle depicts a tense mood because Irene's frustrated and this situation is uncomfortable for her.

natalie The mood in part two is rather uncomfortably tense and somewhat foreboding. There is a mutual understanding between Clare and Irene that they chose two different ways of life in regards to passing as a white woman in society. Irene continuously tries to stay away from Clare, making it even more of a weird environment.

The mood is pretty negative and tense in part 2. Considering that Irene and Clare are different from each other and Irene already doesn't like Clare, in the beginning. So overall it's awkward between them two and Irene just tries to avoid Clare before things get more uncomfortable.
