Irene is frustrated with her husband because he thinks the whole situation with Clare and her husband is funny, while Irene thinks it is awful and painful to hear as a black woman herself. her husband said that if it really bugged her she shouldve said something, but that she is passing herself so she shouldnt be so mad. he said that if John actually called her the n word than it would be different, but he finds it humerous instead.
