X-men Padlet

In the X-men universe, homo superior (human mutants) Possess an X-gene. The X-gene allows the human to have supernatural powers and is located on the 23rd chromosome. The X-gene activates by (via transcription and translation) the production of an exotic protein. This protein produces chemical signals that induces mutations on other genes, ending up with a mutant organism. (Marvel fandom)
Mutant parents
It is stated that if one or either both of the parents are mutants, then mutant birth is guaranteed. "Mutates were more likely to give birth to mutant children, or that the abilities transmitted by their parents made those children mutants because they were born with those abilities." (Marval fandom) Overall the genetics are passed on by generation which allows for more humans with the X-gene, allowing for more abilities and powers.

Quote from The Gene

“Freaks became norms, and norms became extinct. Monster by monster, evolution advanced.”
― Siddhartha Mukherjee, The Gene an intimate history

I chose this quote because I feel as it can relate to the story of the X-men quite well. In most cases, the X-men are outlasted by society as they are clearly not normal. Yet as time goes on, there are more humans with the X-gene which further enhances the chances of getting the gen just like what the quote says by "Monster by monster, evolution advanced."

Quote from Allegory in X-Men,

"The X-men were so different because they were different"
- Brad Meltzer, author and comic book writer.

At first glance, this quote might be confusing however, if you know the back ground as to how the X-men were created it starts to make sense. In the video, Stan Lee says that he did not want to give the X-men a backstory and that they were extreme. That is why they are called the X-men. At the time, super heroes were in their early stages and not everyone would know what a mutant is. This allowed the X-men to be different in their own way which allowed for many future authors to piggy-back off of Stan Lee.
