It is believed that the person who successfully tricks someone will have good luck for the rest of the year.

🔴 Red Eggs

In Greece, we dye eggs red on Holy Thursday.
The red color symbolizes the blood of Christ and new life.
On Easter Sunday, we play a game called egg cracking, where we try to break each other’s eggs.

Holy Saturday Candle (Anastasi)

On Holy Saturday night, people go to church and hold candles.
At midnight, the priest says “Christos Anesti” (Christ is Risen), and everyone lights their candles and celebrates.

Easter Soup — Magiritsa

After the midnight church service, families eat a traditional soup called magiritsa.
It is the first meal after the fasting period.

They celebrate, eat, and spend time with relatives and friends.

🌼 May Day in Greece

May Day is celebrated on the 1st of May in Greece.
People go to the countryside, pick flowers, and make a beautiful flower wreath called “May wreath.”
They hang the wreath on the door of their house to welcome spring and bring good luck.

The sixth-grade students learned about the customs and traditions of the French Easter celebration during their French class. They made paper baskets for the Easter egg hunt, “La chasse aux œufs,” and despite the rainy weather, they didn’t let it get them down! They searched for the hidden eggs in various spots around their classroom, experiencing the French custom, and then had fun racing in “spoon races” with Easter eggs!!!

Spring visit and tour at Panagia Kosmosoteira

On the 6th of May Mrs Smaragdi the teacher of E class and the teacher of English Mrs Joanna achieved another task together! They had the chance to accompany E class to Panagia Kosmosoteira where a tour guide, Mrs Dina, shared fascinating information about the church.

The Church of Panagia Kosmosoteira is an important Byzantine church located in Feres, in the Evros region of Greece. It was built in 1152 by Isaac Komnenos, a member of the imperial family of Byzantium.

The church has a cross-in-square design with domes and strong walls, showing both religious and defensive features. Inside, it was decorated with beautiful frescoes influenced by the art of Constantinople.

During the Ottoman period, the church was turned into a mosque, but later it was restored as a Christian church. Today, it is an important monument and a place of worship.

A special detail of the church is the image of an eagle used as a seal on its exterior decoration. The eagle was a symbol of power in the Byzantine Empire and shows the noble origin of the monument.

When Isaac Komninos built the Monastery he knew that he wanted to be buried there and wrote his desire down. Till now his tomb has not been found! What do you think? Where can it be?

May Day at our school!

We planted flowers in our school garden... in a unique way!!! We also made a wreath for the tradition!!!The May wreath symbolizes the arrival of spring, the rebirth of nature, fertility, and the hope for health and prosperity. It is hung on the front door on May Day as a talisman for good luck and protection from the "evil eye," marking the transition from winter to summer.
