That would present a danger not only for the one entering but also for those who are already inside" (5). To me, this is symbolic of how steadfsat the jewish people were to their faith. Often people ask why didnt they just lie about who they were, but there is a danger in trhying to be someone that you are not -- whether or not you are like someone, just be who you are because if you try yo be like others too much that is not good.

"Work or crematorium -- the choice is yours" (pg. 39). This quote is a great quote for the idea of the book. For this quote was not good for the people in the book but for the understanding of the book. It showed they could choose to die any second. They had hope to stay alive. Thats why they all do the work. They could stop working and just be done with, or they could keep doing what they are doing to stay alive. From the beginning, their lives were in their hands.

He is looking back onto the past and questioning why it even happened. They were all for the most part clueless or wanted to avoid the big problem. He was saying why they had doubt anyhting wpuld happen. Of how crazy this sounded they didnt believe it then.

I wonder what would have happened if they did something to help them. There would have been so much less lost lives. All these familys could be flesh instead of ashes, skin instead of bones. They had all these warnings they ignored and it costed them with most of their lives. I wonder how different it would have been for the main character if they would have took those warnings.

There are two main reocurring themes I have notices. One is about eyes and seeing everything that was going on. THey mention vision and gazing upon people. It shows the importance of seeing the bigger picture. Another is the word night and night in general. They mention the time a lot about how its night or it is dark out. The book is named night and most main events in the book so far has been at night.

Somewhere in him knew it would get better and he should live. His father was keeping him alive as well. He had options to die but didnt take them. He has a never give up mind set. He is living and he is overcoming all the hardship.

Stein was a relative of Elie and his father. Elies mom was his wifes aunt. He came asking about his family back home which he was taken away from. He had hope in staying alive because he believed they were still alive. Elie gave him that hope by saying they were still alive. A transport then arrived from Antwerp, where his family was, and gave him the news. He was never seen again because he lost hope. He found out they werent alive so he had no more reason to stay alive.
