Make a post with your name and a response to the following question: How would you compare insanity to mental illness? What overlap do they share, and how do they differ? Make sure you provide examples of both mental illness and insanity to illustrate your comparison.

the line between someone being insane or mentally ill can be blurred very easily. Both issues have a lot of the same symptoms, such as intense feelings and irrational thoughts. Mental illness is usually a broader and more inclusive term than insanity. Insanity is usually used to describe sever conditions involving psychotic breaks with reality. Mental illness can include both severe and milder forms of mental problems like depression and anxiety

I think the difference between insanity and mental illness is that with mental illness, you are generally aware of it, even if you don’t realize it’s a mental illness. For example if you have a anxiety disorder, you may notice that you don’t like presenting or talking to certain people. With insanity, you may be too deep into it to realize that there’s something wrong with you. Such as harming someone and not feeling remorse for doing so.

I would say that insanity is a form of mental illness. Insanity could describe specific acts while mental illness is more of a general idea. For instance, when someone is described as insane, you imagine that they are likely aggressive, severely unstable and can have outbursts. But someone described as mentally ill could be explosive, quiet, and/or have different levels of anger or sadness.

Insanity, in legal terms, deals with culpability, while mental illness is a broader medical concept. Think of them like cousins – related but not the same. Example: Schizophrenia is a mental illness affecting reality, but not everyone with it is legally insane. Legal insanity and diagnosed mental illness don’t always match up.

Insanity is a severe condition making one lose themselves and seperating from reality. While mental illness is less severe conditions such as mild conditions. Both defenitions overlap as someone acting unordernary. The only difference how they are treatted. I'm not talking about a cure/treatment but how people who just mental illness while also quick judge to those who are insane.

I think when you’re going insane you aren’t aware of your surroundings and the consequences of your actions. For example, individuals going mad by throwing objects or screaming. Mental illness is when you’re aware that something is wrong with you mentally and emotionally. For example, becoming uninterested in activities you usually enjoy and isolating yourself. I believe mental illness can lead to insanity and vice versa.
