In my class we have social and emotional lessons. One of the lessons we talk about is ways to work with others. This is a lesson that we go back to frequently throughout the school year. My students worked on a group project and most of the groups were not functioning well. I saw an area for growth. For students to grow in this are they had to change some of their behaviors. We reviewed our lesson and then we sat down and had a restorative circle. We talked about what went well, what didn't go well, and how we could do it differently. That day when the students went back to work on their projects, they changed their behaviors. I chose reading because I believe it is so important to have the skills to teach every child the building blocks of education. 
Additionally, through my district I have joined a personalized learning cohort. We will attend trainings throughout the year. I will also come up with a way I want to implement personalized learning in my classroom. Trainers will work with me to see how this is going. When my students were having a really hard time working together in groups, I was tempted to stop the project. However, when I went to another educator to talk about it, they suggested I try a restorative circle. I changed the way I responded to my students.
