         <description><![CDATA[<div>원소 기호: Cu<br>원소 번호: 29<br>원소 특징: 구리는 한자어로 <em>銅</em>, 동이다. 주기율표에서 금(<em>Au</em>), 은(<em>Ag</em>)과 함께 11족에 속하며 이 세 금속 원소들은 옛날부터 화폐 제조에 사용되었기 때문에 ‘<em>화폐 금속</em>’이라고도 부르며 구리가 이 중에서 가장 값싸게 많은 양을 생산할 수 있어서 실용적으로 여러 목적에서 많이 사용된다. 순수한 금속 표면은 적갈색을 띄며 천연 상태에서 원소 상태로 발견되었기 때문에 기원전 9000년부터 구리를 사용할 수 있었다.<br>구리는 무르며 열과 전기 전도성이 뛰어난 금속으로 전선이나 난방용 배관, 장신구, 주방도구, 배, 동전 등 다양한 물건을 만드는데 사용이 된다.<br>또한 로마 시대 때 구리는 주로 키프로스(<em>Cyprus</em>)라는 섬에서 채굴 되었어서 '키프로스의 금속'이란 뜻의 키프륨(<em>Cyprium</em>)에서 <em>Cuprum</em> -&gt; <em>Copper</em>(영어)로 변천했고, 원소 기호는 <em>Cu</em>가 되었다.</div>]]></description>

'네온'이라는 이름은 '새롭다'라는 뜻의 그리스어 네오스(neos)에서 유래했다. 네온은 지구에서는 매우 희귀한 원소이지만 우주 전체로는 4번째로 많이 포함된 원소이다. 지구 대기의 0.002%가 네온으로 헬륨보다 약간많다. 스코틀렌드의 과학자 윌리엄 램지와 영국 화학자 모리스 트래버스가 1898년에 액화 공기 샘플에서 네온을 발견했다. 1910년에는 프랑스의 발명가 조르주 클로드가 저압의 네온 기체에 전류를 흘렀을 때 나오는 밝은 빛을 이용하는 방법인 네온관을 발견했다. 네온사인은 아직도 널리 사용되고 있지만 오늘 날의 네온관에는 여러가지 불활성기체 혼합물이나 때로는 수은 증기를 넣어 여러가지 색의 네온을 만들고 있다. 네온의 원래 색은 빨간색 뿐이다.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>원소 기호: Al<br>원소 번호: 13<br><br>&lt;1&gt;<br>알루미늄(Aluminum)은 주기율표에서 원자 번호 13번에 해당하는 원소로써 원소 기호는 Al이다. 은백색의 무른 금속이다. 지각 구성 원소로 8%를 차지하며 이는 철보다도 많은 양이며, 산소와 규소 다음으로 세번째 많은 양이다. &nbsp;<br><br>&lt;2&gt;<br>1. 알루미늄은 지각에 가장 많이 분포해있는 원소임에도 철, 구리보다 비싸다. 보크사이트 광석으로부터 알루미늄을 정제하는 데 엄청난 에너지가 들기 때문이다. 우리나라에도 알루미늄 정제소가 있었는데 산업체 혜택을 받아도 감당할 수 없는 전기료 탓에 지금은 운영하지 않는 상태이다. 이 정도로 정제하기 힘든 알루미늄은 1800년대에는 정제하기 힘들단 이유로 가장 귀한 손님에게 알루미늄 식기를 대접하고, 그 이외의 손님에게 금으로 된 식기를 대접할만큼 아주 귀하고 정제하기 힘든 금속이었다.<br><br>2. 영화나 소설에서 가끔가다 '분진 폭발' 이라는 소재가 나오는데, 여러 공정에 이용되는 알루미늄 또한 분진으로 날리는 경우가 많다. 산화성이 높아 폭발 사고가 일어나기도 한다. 이러한 알루미늄의 성질을 활용해 짧은 시간 내에 강한 폭발력을 필요로 하는 로켓과 미사일의 연료, 섬광탄, 수류탄에 쓰이기도 한다.</div>]]></description>
