They do this for people who are in need but are unable to afford health care. It is called Medicaid. Government programs also "supports lift millions of Americans out of poverty, help “make work pay” by supplementing low wages" (10). This keeps people from falling into deeper poverty. "Federal assistance lifts millions of people, including children, out of poverty" (11). Medicaid was created by the government for the poor and the elderly.
