And trust us when we say this, we know how difficult it can be to go through it, especially if you don’t fully understand the psychology of bullying. In this article, we will be exploring the reasons why people bully, using the latest research and psychology, to give you a greater understanding of the motives of those who are either bullying you right now, or who have done so in the past.

By the end of this article, you will no longer see your physical appearance, interests, race, disability, sexuality, or whatever it is that makes you unique the problem.

A close friend, safe places to stay, other positive experiences, another friendship group to join, or students who say something supportive or positive can all reduce the impact of bullying, and can stop it happening again.

Bullying is always an unpleasant experience. It is important to support resilience in students and assist them working through these experiences, learning to trust others, and developing friendships.

A positive school climate is a critical part of the 'protective' system around an individual student.

The Department of Justice’s Community Relations Service is the Department's "peacemaker" for community conflicts and tensions arising from differences of race, color and national origin and to prevent and respond to violent hate crimes committed on the basis of: gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, disability, race, color, and national origin. It is a free, impartial, confidential and voluntary Federal Agency that offers mediation, conciliation, technical assistance, and training.

What if the harassment continues?

If harassment persists, consider filing a formal grievance with the district and contacting the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights and from the U.S. Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division.

In contrast, a higher percentage of male than of female students reported being threatened with harm (5 vs. 3 percent).

A higher percentage of students in grade 6 than of students in grades 8 through 12 reported being bullied at school during the school year. In 2015, about 31 percent of 6th-graders reported being bullied at school, compared with 22 percent of 8th-graders, 19 percent of 9th-graders, 21 percent of 10th-graders, 16 percent of 11th-graders, and 15 percent of 12th-graders. No measurable differences were observed in the percentage of students who reported being bullied at school by urban or between those in public and private schools.
