Significance Michelangelo was a sculptor, painter, poet and architect. He is considered to be one of the greatest artists of the Italian Renaissance (1300-1700 BC). Michelangelo had a profound influence on the development on western art. His art exhibited psychological insight, physical realism and intensity. His paintings and sculptures were copied in the late Renaissance period, leading to a new style called ‘mannerism.’ The Sistine chapel is one of his most famous works of art, that displays his impeccable talent as an artist.Other famous works by Michelangelo are the 'David' (1504) and 'Pietà' (1498-99) statues, which Michelangelo both sculptured before he was 30. People study Michelangelo’s work because of the quality of his art and its uniqueness. Michelangelo’s legacy is the art works he created. The statues and paintings that still exist today, are still visited by tourists in museums or in places around Rome and other places around Italy.

Michelangelo attracted considerable patronage, meaning he was a popular artist and his work was put to use. Yet he was also wary of the influence of patrons once stating: "One cannot live under pressure from patrons, let alone paint."-Michelangelo.

Michelangelo received the commission to paint the Sistine Chapel ceiling as a consolation prize of sorts when Pope Julius II temporarily scaled back plans for a massive sculpted memorial to himself that Michelangelo was to complete.

Pope Julius || was a "fearless Pope" that commissioned lots of things like the destruction and the rebuilding of St. Peter's Basilica , and of course Michelangelo's decoration of the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.

Michelangelo was commissioned to create the David by the Arte della Lana (Guild of Wool Merchant), who were responsible for the up-keeping and the decoration of the Cathedral in Florence. For this. he was given a block of marble which Agostino di Duccio had already tried to fashion forty years before hand maybe with the same subject in mind.
Michelangelo was commissioned by a lot of people to create/produce art for them. he was getting very well known for his amazing art.

The following quotes demonstrate a range of perspectives on Michelangelo’s art.

Michelangelo argues ‘Every block of stone has a statue inside it and it is the task of the sculptor to discover it.’ This demonstrates his ability to envision art before he created it.

Speaking about the Sistine Chapel ceiling fresco Giorgio Vasari, a famous Italian painter and architect from the same time period of Michelangelo said “The work has proved a veritable beacon to our art, restoring light to a world that for centuries had been plunged into darkness.” This shows that Michelangelo had a significant influence on art.

William Wallace, an art historian from Columbia University writes that: “Michelangelo was one of the greatest marble sculptors of all time. He was also one of the greatest painters, architects and poets.

This painting is called the Sistine Chapel, its painted Michelangelo, one of the most famous artist of the renaissance time.
This painting took fifty-four months for Michelangelo to paint. Michelangelo's main use of art in the Sistine Chapel was portraits of gods, angels and popes. The most famous part of the big ceiling is called "The Creation of Adam". The image depicts Adam and God within arms reach. Adam is not wearing anything and god is floating in the air surrounded by angels wearing a white cloth. All around the Lunettes, there are paintings of The Ancestor's of Christ. Around the center of the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel are twelve prophetic figures all representing the coming of Christ. Seven of these are Israeli Prophets, and the remaining five are the female Sibyls (a woman in ancient times who was thought to utter the prophecies of a god) of the Classical World. The alternating male and female figures are seated on thrones and are depicted reading manuscripts, books or scrolls. From left to right are many different paintings like the "Separation of Light From Darkness", "The creation of Plants And The Sun And The Moon", "The Separation Of The Earth From the Waters." In the middle there is "The Creation of Adam," "The Creation of Eve," and o n the right is "The Temptation And Fall Of Adam And Eve,"
All of the things he painted on The Sistine Chapel had a meaning, like his painting of "The life of Christ" told the story about Christ's life and what he did.
