The US does not want the bad parts of its history exposed because they want to look good on the world stage. Our imperialsitic endeavors would make other countries question the integrity of our ideological principles of democracy and independence. If the U.S. believed that its treatment of Filipinos was warranted, it would not have covered up its militaristic conflict with the Filipino people who called for true independence.

This cartoon illustrates U.S. propaganda, which enforces the idea that America was "liberating" countries that were under foreign rule. In this cartoon, America can be seen shielding Cuba from foreign powers. Furthermore, it is depicted as being a strong and just country, however in reality it used similar tactics to rule Cuba as the other powers.

This Cartoon shows Uncle sam bringing religion, railroads, goods, and technology to China. The idea of this was to expand US imperialism. They believed that the Phillipines was the gateway or a step towards getting to Asia. It makes it clear that the US was very determined to bring everything over and expand to increase economic control. This also represent dollar diplomacy because it was expanding US interests.

The Jungle Book of Ignorance
As a part of White Man's Burden, Anglo-Saxon individuals felt like it was their duty to "civilize" people of color; this was the pre-conceived notion that someone's skin color determined their value. This aspect of othering individuals was justified on the ignorant belief of Social Darwinism and democratizing people of color from the world of corruption. The term 'White Man's Burden' comes from the author Rudyard Kipling, who wrote the novel 'The Jungle Book'.

This cartoon shows how the US offered a choice to the Philippines to either become like them, "the superior culture or race" or suffer, in whatever suffering means. The face of the man offering the model appears evil, showing how little we cared for these people and their culture. Throughout the imperialistic era, the US carried racist beliefs and used the idea of assimilation to turn the people into their own.

This cartoon shows how the US helped struggling countries, however they created governments and social structures in these countries that mirrored Americas. (Moral diplomacy). This became an issue as it was very hypocritical from a country that is founded off the belief that the people have a say in government, even though they went to these countries and forced their own government on the people, regardless if they supported it or not.

Much of the US population believed that White people were superior to non-whites in several key aspects. There was the common belief in a white man's burden, which said that white people were obligated to educate and civilize non-white peoples. There is also moral diplomacy in that the US is using the dictatorship as a justification.
