As a part of White Man's Burden, Anglo-Saxon individuals felt like it was their duty to "civilize" people of color; this was the pre-conceived notion that someone's skin color determined their value. This aspect of othering individuals was justified on the ignorant belief of Social Darwinism and democratizing people of color from the world of corruption.
