Kwame Nkrumah was a politician in Ghana. He was also part of a group named the United Gold Coast (UGCC). He was invited by J.B. Daqah in 1947. But then later on left to start up his own group. And eventually, gain Ghana´s independence

Even though riots were breaking out on February 29, 1948 Kwame Nkrumah took advantage of this and took the matter to the Colonial Office in London. And demanded self government. That didn't work and the governor exiled Nkrumah and other leaders of the UGCC. After, in June 1949. Nkrumah started up a new group called the Convention People’s Party (CPP).

Later on In 1949 with the CPP gaining much support they demanded another assembly just like the one that Nkrumah had tried to have before. The assembly had 80,000 representatives demanding self-government. After requesting a round table conference he was rejected by the British officials. After this attempt at an assembly Nkrumah decided to put ¨positive action¨ into motion.

After much push back from Britain and fighting from Nkrumah Ghana finally gained independence in 1957.
