At sites across the country, secrecy and security was of high importance to the people the worked on the project. Workers went through extensive background checks by the FBI to ensure that the person was not a spy. The workers at each site did not know what went on at the other sites. Only General Leslie R. Groves knew of the entirety&nbsp;of the Manhattan Project. </div>]]></description>

Three days following the bombing on Hiroshima, America dropped a second atomic bomb, known as "Fat Man", on the city of Nagasaki. Both bombing eventually led to the surrender.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Reason for Dropping the Atomic Bombs</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>After the bombings in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, several reasons were given as to why the bombs were created and used in the Manhattan Project. One prominent reason that President Harry S. Truman gave is that the bombings would cause an end to the war and cause Japan to surrender.  By following the link, students can discover other reasons why the atomic bombs were dropped on the two cities in Japan.</div>]]></description>
