         <title>Personalized Overview</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>There have been many controversial beliefs in regards to the use of artificial intelligence in the healthcare system. Discussing both sides of the issue of artificial intelligence in healthcare and if it is doing more harm than good or vice versa for mankind. There will also be a deep discussion on whether or not the companies who make this artificial intelligence technology make it available for everyone to use or just for the wealthy. These tools can be used but not limited to diagnosing illness and/ or disease, treating breast cancer or any type of cancer, and help triage mass casualty incidents after a big event leaving many injured. Some of these companies being Butterfly Network, Deep Scribe, and Ada Health. I chose this topic because of how I used to work in the medical field as a volunteer EMT and saw the rise of technology in the medical field. As stated I will make a new padlet for each of the medical diagnoses, injuries, and fields. Then I will link a company who has a share in the creation of artificial intelligence in these medical topics. After the three topics I will then post some possible future trends and address any ethical issues. Followed by any societal Impact using artificial intelligence might have. Then followed by the padlet posts of my overview video, reflections, and my citations. This is significant to me because as it helped many quickly, it was not always offered to everyone because of their financial status and this is something I hoped has changed since I left the ambulance.</p>]]></description>

         <title>Healthcare- AI in administration</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>This example is to show how artificial intelligence has improved healthcare administration and expedited the process. A company called DeepScribe has a part in advancing artificial intelligence within the administration section of healthcare. According to The Medical Futurist “By using advanced speech recognition models, DeepScribe captures natural conversations between physicians and patients, transforming them into comprehensive, accurate clinical notes.”1. This helps improve the patient's experience because it allows more time for the doctor to focus on the patient instead of their notes. It also allows the doctor to ensure the patient understands what they are hearing and clarify any questions. Towards the end of my time in the ambulance I was seeing this more and more in the hospitals and saw first hand how these really do help because it allows the nurse that was taking the notes to step away from the computer and help with patient care. However, because of the price I assume I only saw 1-2 per hospital. This AI tool can be very helpful in a triage setting where everything can be a bit crazy.</p>]]></description>

         <title>Healthcare- AI in Medical Imaging</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>This example is to show how artificial intelligence has improved healthcare medical imaging leading to diagnosing the patient. Medical imaging was already a very advanced tool to where doctors can and patients can look inside the human body and see what is wrong and visually see the course of treatment. A company called Butterfly Network took what is currently being used and took it a step further. “Butterfly Network in 2011 with the goal to create a new handheld medical imaging device that can make both MRI and ultrasounds significantly cheaper and more efficient." stated by The Medical Futurist.1. These tools can also help prevent infections and other diseases for the patient as they no longer have to go all over the hospital for testing. This portable tool can help speed up the process of diagnosing broken bones, different types of cancers, and/ or clots.</p><p><br/></p>]]></description>

         <title>Healthcare- AI in Health Management</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>This example is to show how artificial intelligence has improved healthcare management. This can range from administrative to the patient managing their own health by making appointments, setting reminders to take medicine, and tracking their current state of health. A company called ADA Health has made this process easier for the patient by making it an app on their phones. This can improve patient outcomes because of the app features which can help tracking times and cycles. The Medical Futurist mentioned, “It takes reported symptoms, matches them with symptoms of patients of similar age and gender, and reports the statistical likelihood that the patient has a certain condition.”1. However, there are issues with this way of helping because it could scare a patient with a false diagnosis or share confidential information.</p><p><br></p>]]></description>

         <title>Future Trends and Ethical Considerations</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>The future is always changing and unpredictable. However, medical innovations and advancements are happening everyday. Most of these advancements happen and are caused with the help of artificial intelligence. However, in what ways is artificial intelligence going to advance the medical field? Currently patients' medical records have been moved to online so it can be shared between doctors with the patient’s consent. This will save time and give the doctors a medical history to follow to help find a diagnosis for their patient. According to the National Library of Medicine, they state, “AI will extract important information from a patient’s electronic footprint. At first this will save time and improve efficiency, but following adequate testing it will also directly guide patient management.”2. However, with these many new and beneficial advancements there are always problems, flaws from computers to human errors, and glitches in the technological systems itself. Every patient has the right to privacy and is allowed to release their information on their own terms. In another article from the National Library of Medicine, they state, “Some social networks gather and store large amounts of users’ data, for instance, individuals’ mental health data, without their consent, which can be helpful in the marketing, advertising, and sales of these companies.”3. The article continues to mention, “Also, some genetics testing and bioinformatics companies, which are not legal or closely monitored, sell customer data to pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.”3. This raises a big debate on whether or not having these advancements are worth having the patients personal information out into the public from artificial intelligence advancements.</p><p><br></p>]]></description>

         <title>Societal Impact</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>There are several social impacts that arise from the advancement and adoption of artificial intelligence in the healthcare industry. This growth of artificial intelligence brings a wealth of knowledge to the patients, so the patient can make a well informed decision in their health and play an active role in their healthcare rather than just solely relying on their doctor's word. Artificial intelligence also impacts the social world of the patients because it can give them the opportunity to facetime their doctors on an app, in the event the patient does not feel well enough to go to the doctors office. The app also allows the patient to contact their doctors via text message at any time, all while keeping the patients and doctor phone numbers and personal contact information private. “AI may result in people losing their jobs, which may cause social instability. In healthcare, the use of autonomous robotic devices has aroused significant concerns about ethics and trust”4. Though there are many benefits to having artificial intelligence, there are many faults to artificial intelligence as well. Some of these negative attributes include loss of jobs, loss of human interaction and face to face contact, and will take time to re-educate the workers on how to use this new technology. My personal opinion is that the positives outweigh the negatives because I believe that everyone should be able to educate themselves on their own medical diagnosis and should play a role in the medical decisions. It is also important that the patient should be able to contact their doctor at any time.</p><p><br></p>]]></description>

         <title>Reflections</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>There are many advantages and disadvantages to artificial intelligence in the healthcare field. The Los Angeles Pacific University states, “Improved diagnostics and precision medicine, Streamlined administrative tasks and workflow, Enhanced research and development.”5. Then continues to mention, “Ethical concerns and data privacy issues, Potential job displacement and human-AI collaboration challenges, Reliability and trust issues in AI-driven decision-making”5. These are important to note here because I agree with all of this as I saw these points in action, while I served on the ambulance. I’ve seen diagnostic tools advance which lead to better patient outcomes, I saw how the administrative paperwork flows faster through this technology. Which is why I support AI in the healthcare field. However, everyone must remember and be aware of the negative side and respect each other's beliefs.</p><p><br></p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><br></p>]]></description>
