We created a questionnaire with general questions which are easy to answer and open questions to ask for opinions and allow respondents to answer freely. The questionnaire can be seen at the top left of the page.

Other than carrying out interviews to collect our data, we also had to record a land use survey to find out the types and distribution of land uses in each site. The land use surveys can be seen below this box.

Lastly, we did a pedestrian count at each site to observe and count the number of visitors using an online tally counter over a period of 10 minutes from 1.10 pm to 1.20 pm. Some also refused to be interviewed because they had already done the interviews at other sites or by other groups at the same site. Also, not all of them were able to converse in English. This can be supported by our data which suggests that most of the tourists, we interviewed, visited Kampong Glam because of the food and retail. Also, our pedestrian count suggests that Arab street had the most number of pedestrians among the rest. This could be due to the large number of retail shops in Arab Street inferred from our land use survey. Hence, the number of retail shops in Arab Street could have attracted the presence of the tourists. Therefore, the presence of food and retail of Kampong Glam makes it an attractive tourist destination due to the large number of retail shops in Arab Street and the response we got from tourists.

We might have slight inaccuracies in our data especially for the pedestrian count. We could have inaccuracies in our tally counting as we might have accidentally tally counted more or less during over the 10 minutes. From the data we compiled,  Arab Street had the most pedestrian count which is 120 while the other 3 location had lesser than 60.

7 tourists mentioned that they visited Kampong Glam because of the food.
4 tourists mentioned that they visited Kampong Glam because they wanted to go sight-seeing.
1 tourist mentioned that they visited Kampong Glam because of retail.
1 tourist mentioned that they visited Kampong Glam because of business.

The project was an enjoyable one, yet it was quite a great challenge. I thought working with my closest friends made it easier but in fact, it was harder because it was tough for us to focus better. However, the project was still enjoyable as we could learn more about Kampong Glam itself and also got to interview people from different countries.

Aisyah:
The project was definitely a challenging one because we had to interview tourists. On top of that, we had to record the land use survey of the site and it was tiring. It was my first time having the opportunity to interview tourists and I enjoyed it because some were just so friendly. One of them also requested to have a picture taken with them and she even said that we looked really cheerful and  were all very smiley. It was definitely a great and memorable experience completing this project.

Winna:
The experience I got from the project had definitely taught me a few things. For example, I learnt how to handle the different types of interviewees and how to approach them politely during the data collection. There were also some challenges.  For example, some of the tourists were not proficient in English and there was very few tourists around my sites. To sum it up, it was a great experience

Asyran:
It was a pleasant project.However,we do face challenges throughout the project.Interviewing tourists is the one where I struggled with the most.This is because our locations were so near to each other that quite a number of tourists refused to be interviewed again. Nevertheless,it was an enjoyable experience. I was entertained by the responses given by the tourists. All in all, it was a great experience as I am able to interact with foreigners and hear their thoughts on Kampong Glam.

However, we realised that we had no closed questions with a fixed set of answers for the respondents to choose from. in our questionnaire. We could have included a few closed questions to improve on the type of the questions asked and also to have a mixture of questions to make the questionnaire more interesting. 

Besides that, we could have avoided asking overlapping questions or questions that have the same purpose to prevent having repeated answers from the respondents. 

Also, when evaluating the methods, we thought that our sample size of 13 interviews were representative of the tourists visiting Kampong Glam.
