John Locke believed in a natural right to life, liberty, and property. Locke was a believer in equality for mankind. This equality is what drove his thought that nobody should harm another in his life, health, liberty, or possessions. These ideas influenced the US Declaration of Independence. This is shown in the most common phrase "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."(Wikipedia.com)

John Locke was one of the first British Empiricists. He believed that we are born with no knowledge. According to Locke, we learn through our five senses or from reflecting on our thoughts. Every time we use one of our senses we learn something. Locke believed if you can't use your five senses then you can't fully learn what things are. For instance, if you can't hear music you would never truly know what music is. Reflection is looking back at past experiences and learning from them. (Study.com)

The Declaration of Independence is mostly based on Enlightenment. John Locke was one of the most influential enlightenment thinkers.
