He was born with a tumour wrapped around his spinal cord which was operated on not long after he was born however, it left Alcott a paraplegic requiring him to use a wheelchair

He is an Australian former wheelchair tennis player, former wheelchair basketball player, radio host and motivational speaker.

He was named the 2016 Australian Paralympian of the Year after his achievements at Rio Olympics.

In 2018 he started a universally accessible music festival called Ability fest. Featuring pathways for wheelchairs, quiet areas for people with sensory needs, and Auslan (Australian Sign Language) interpreters

He has hosted radio shows, as well as being a commentator for the 2019 Australian Open. He also was on the AFL Footy Show 

He was named Australian of the Year and was made an Officer of the Order of Australia in 2022. . 

In 2017 he established the Dylan Alcott Foundation "with the core purpose of helping young Australians with disabilities gain self-esteem and respect through sport and study" 

In September 2017, Alcott was appointed Australian Patron for International Day of People with Disability. 

Alcott's advice to young people with a disability is: "The biggest thing is that for every one thing you can’t do, there are 10,000 others you can. For every one idiot to give you a hard time, there are 10,000 others worth your time"

 Maurice was born in Tantanoola in the South East of SA.
When he was 18 years old travelling back from his job as a fitter and turner, in Mount Gambier, he was involved in a traffic accident which resulted in an injury to his neck, resulting in Quadriplegia. During rehab his employer informed him that he wanted him back at work in any capacity that he was capable of. That gave Maurice the determination that everyone with a disability could lead a full life. He moved to Adelaide and worked as a social worker and was active in a lot of equal rights movements for people with disabilities.

Maurice was instrumental in the development of a nationally recognised advocacy training program in 1977 which was launched by Sir Ronald Wilson, the President of the Human Rights and Equal opportunity Commission (HREOC). The training aimed to equip people with the skills to advocate for themselves and others. Maurice considers advocacy to be really important for people living with disability.

Maurice has played a strong social activist role in the drive for accessible public transport in Australia. 

In 1994, a person in a wheelchair couldn't get on a bus.
That was when he decided that we need to be proactive
 and to hold a protest and blockade one of the bus depots.
He gave the government an ultimatum to actually get on and allow public transport to be accessible for all, or we will use the Disability Discrimination Act.
In 1994, Maurice lodged one of the first complaints with the Human Rights Commission.
He asked that in future, all public transport be accessible.
Maurice's complaint started in South Australia, but the case went national.
Prior to it going to the full hearing, Queensland, Victoria and New South Wales Department of Transport applied to join the case against the complaint.
Maurice's landmark case delivered the biggest change in infrastructure resulting from discrimination legislation in Australia.
A full hearing took place in October 1994 and agreements were reached that included the government committing to a trial of accessible buses, to only purchase accessible buses from that point and to develop an Action Plan moving forward.
This Government Disability Action Plan would outline how all transport would be made accessible to people living with disability. Maurice says “This was another significant indication of the power of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA). The first Accessible Transport Action Plan for TransAdelaide was released in July 1995.
He is married, has three children and fostered another, alongside a busy and distinguished career spent advocating for South Australians with disabilities, which continues now with a new role in the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability.

He is a cool dude who has worked hard to end discrimination against people with disabilities in SA.

Japanese journalist, teacher and sportswriter born without arms and legs due to a genetic disorder called tetra-amelia syndrome.

His parents raise him as same as other children.  Provide him with as normal an upbringing as possible, including sending him through the mainstream school system.
His disability did not make him surrender with his life but accept his circumstance off hand. Even without arms and legs he always forces himself to do what normal people can do, like playing basketball and American football, joining 50 meters run race and climbing up Mount Kobo with his friends.

He published his autobiography, Gotai Fumanzoku, translated into English as No One's Perfect.

Born in New York, in 1952.  An Actor best known for playing the role of Superman in 1978.

In May 27, 1995 Christopher broke his neck when thrown from a horse.  He was paralyzed from the shoulders down from this injury, he used wheel chair and needed a ventilator for the rest of his life.  He continued to live at home with the help of a team of 10 nurses and aides.

Before the accident he was a environmental and human rights activist.  After the accident he lobbied for spinal injury research and stem cell research.

Reeve was elected chairman of American Paralysis Association (now Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation) and vice chair of  National Organization on Disability.   He co-founded the Reeve-Irvine Research Center, which is now one of the leading spinal cord research centers.  Founded  the Christopher Reeve Foundation.  This foundation has given more than $65 million in research and $8.5 million to quality of life grants.


Christopher wrote 2 books after his accident one called “Nothing is impossible” and the other is  “Still Me”.  In 2004 he directed a movie called “The Brooke Ellison Story”.  This film is based on a true story of the first quadriplegic to graduate from Harvard University.
