The point, with its open views of the lake and skyline, mirrors that feeling.

Originally built in 1923 as the Stony Island Trust & Savings Bank, this building spent years in a state of ruin and was nearly demolished before Artist Theaster Gates transformed it into the Stony Island Arts Bank in 2015. This building was changed from a place that was forgotten and neglected into a place that honors African-American history, culture, and community. This reflects Dybek's belief time doesn't leave, it accumulates, which was illustrated in several of his works including "Autobiography" and "You Can't Step into the Same Street Twice".

Summerfest Hyde Park

Hyde Park Summer Fest is a yearly Juneteenth celebration that reflects the neighborhood’s cultural identity and community. Though not inherently religious, the 2 day festival carries spiritual undertones because of its focus on unity, joy, pride, and community. All of which are values deeply rooted in Black cultural and spiritual traditions. This festival creates a space for the connection and expression, honoring the heritage and history of the South Side. People travel from around the country to attend this event and it has even featured famous black artists like 2 Chainz and Jhene Aiko. Unfortunately, due to various issues and rising cost, this 9 year tradition has come to an end. The ending of this yearly tradition speaks the rapid changes occurring in Hyde Park within its spiritual, monetary, and communal history.
