The main idea of "A Quilt of a Country" is that though difficult times in the U.S. that is when people come together. This is still relevant in 2021 because through Covid-19 and all the craziness people have come together to bring peace. This has happened multiple times in the past and that is not right that we try to make the world a better place but, we are acting diverse.
In paragraph 2 it says "Perhaps they understand it at this moment, when enormous tragedy, as it so often does, demands a time of reflection on enormous blessings." This shows that when big tragedy comes it like a wake up call to come together and to settle differences. Even when they say that they accept the differences behind closed doors they hold grudges because they can't really move on.
A real life situation is the pressure to take the vaccine. When people found out what people are saying is wrong some people came together to tell them that what they are saying is wrong. It shows that when something bad happens in the world people come together to fix it and then when it gone they go their seperate ways.

A Quilt Of a Country" in my opinion is still relevant in 2021 because even though there's alot of stuff getting more normalized currently , judgement is still a thing that continues to happen alot in today's current generation. The claim of the story shows how the country of the United States community is still a little bit divided , not just with race but in other situations as well . Examples are like being in school , there's always different friend groups or selections that people tend to associate themselves in as individuals because now a days , meeting someone new or seeing someone new typically sometimes in our minds comes off as judgement first more than getting to see how that person is like.

The claim in "A Quilt of a Country" is still relevant in 2021, because they're countries that are struggling or families that are in a bad spot. America is a first world country, a lot of other countries are not. America has free speech, and good job opportunities. However, America does not have free health care a lot of people under the poverity line.

America is a country with a lot of money and resources, with a lot of people who want that money. For example in 1845 to 1852 in Ireland their was a potato famine. I mention this because during that time there was a lot of Irish citizens who immigrated to America during that time. America had a lot of resources and was a great place to be in for people of non color.

In paragraph 7 it is stated that "Ma and Pa are now Korean, Vietnamese, Iraqi, Jordanian, Latin American." This is important because their was and still is a lot of immigrants coming in from Mexico. Their are 10.9 million documented emigrants this is because of how much the difference of other countries and America. In Mexico they could be in a bad situation where they need to escape from that or get a fresh start which they could do in America.

The claim in the passage "A Quilt of a Country" is that America only forms in unity when something domestic happens, causing everyone to form together for a certain amount of time. I say this because in the passage the author states "The citizens of the United States have come together once more because of armed conflict or enemy attack.

An example from the text would be 9/11. Before the attacks happened, no one was thinking to form together, it was all selfishness. Until the attacks happened they had to set there differences aside and form as one to help there loved ones and the people they held most dearest to them. They also helped each other. Injured or scared, it didn't matter because they were formed as one and I feel like this should happen more and not only during world devastation.

Like the author said "Terrorism has led to devastation-and unity. This tends to happened during, Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, Pearl Harbor, the Oklahoma City bombing and many more. Us Americans had no choice but to unite together so they could get through these attacks together. It feels like after the few days of unity, we go back to forgetting that we ever united and it should not be that way, it should stay that way. In order for the wold to be a better place we must unite more.

The main idea/claim of "A quilt of a country" is people come together the most in the time of need but when the need is done everyone goes their separate ways. This is still relevant today in 2021 because there are different races and cultures in the U.S but at the end of the day, we are all Americans. Of course, discrimination and racism are still here, it might not be as easy to spot but it definitely didn't go anywhere. It's like the United States tells people to come here for a better life when life is better but they get so much hate just because they look different than others. At the time of 9/11, your differences didn't matter. They didn't matter since the country was under attack. As things died down a bit, Muslims were being blamed since it was a terrorist attack, but this wasn't true.

To start off I found in the text, "Historians today bemoan the ascendancy of a kind of prideful apartheid in America, saying that the clinging to ethnicity, in the background and custom, has undermined the concept of unity." This means that in today's time people thinking all about ethnicity will keep us farther apart than united. I also found, "Today the citizens of the United States have come together once more because of armed conflict and enemy attack". This means that when there is a threat to the country people will unite together. I chose these two different pieces of evidence to show that people focusing on your skin color, religion, and differences can keep us away from unity but also when there's a threat we are all united. This is not how things should be done since we are all one country.

Some examples would be having a new friend at school who is from overseas but judging that person before you actually know them but still calling them your classmate. This is the same thing as a bunch of immigrants coming over experiencing hate, rumors, threats, and unfair treatment but still want to call them American. What I'm trying to say is people try to give others who look different titles such as "American" but are treated as a complete threat to society. This isn't uniting them with the rest of the country it's just pushing the father apart. As Americans, we need to unite completely so that this stops happening and everyone can be called an "American" along with equal treatment.

The claim of "A quilt is a country" is still relevant because even though there is a lot of normalization and acceptance we still go through everyday struggles . Even then there are things in America that can be fixed within racism , laws , segregation , and judgement .
In the third paragraph it states " Historians today bemoan the ascendancy of a kind of prideful apartheid in America, saying that the clinging to ethnicity, in the background and custom, has undermined the concept of unity." I think that states the lack of unity that we need as a country . Although we might say we have come together as one to bring peace we really never do . It's like the same thing happens over and over and over . Nobody really ever learns until its them.
A real life example would be all the protest that have gone on . Starting with George Floyd. There were many protest regarding this situation , for there not to be a single change. Many lives are getting taken due to lack of real unity and because of racism. If everyone was so equal how it seems we would never have had lost lives or had to have unity .

"A Quilt of a Country" in my opinion is still relevant in 2021. Even though lots of progress has been made and things seem to start being normalized more, not everything is good. It seems like our own country is at war with itself.

For example, in paragraph 3 of "A Quilt of a Country" "I was the product of a mixed marriage". That statement is a prime example of what goes on in this country today. People are so quick to judge when they see something not in their eyes or something they wouldn't consent, but fail to realize that it's not their life. All types of things similar to this topic go on in the world repeatedly today.

Now however, things have seemed to have gotten better. People now have started to accept more people. Things around this world still take negative affects. There has been somewhat of a progression though.
