Welcome to Foundations of Nursing Science! This course is one of two that are prerequisites for most of the rest of the DNP core courses.
My name is Claudia Beckmann and I am the associate dean for the graduate programs in the School of Nursing-Camden.
We want all of the DNP courses to build upon each other and to culminate in the in the implementation and evaluation of your scholarly project. During Foundations of Nursing Sciences we will be exploring a number of concepts and theories which will used as the framework for your project.
I would like for you to introduce yourself to the class and discuss what you are thinking of for your scholarly project (provide as much detail as you have now). I would hope that you use assignments in you other classes to lead to your project.

I received my BSN from Holy Family University in 2015 and started working at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia that same year. I worked at Deborah Heart and Lung Center for three years, and I am currently at Jefferson Hospital for Neuroscience.

My name is Stephanie Conners. I have four children, two in college, a senior in high school and a sweet nine-year-old. This is an exciting time in my career. Advancing my education with a team of talented nurses will prove to enhance my skills as a leader.

My goal in choosing a capstone project is focused around my desire to apply meaningful work that will translate awareness of evidence-based practice into executive leadership decision making. With over 20 plus years in executive leadership, my experience taught me that the integration of evidence in decision making is the ultimate driver of success.

Initially, I plan to explore the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and its impact on clinical outcomes and workflows. EHR is a system that has been widely adopted to enhance safety, service, quality and cost; ultimately, enhancing workflow. A digital health record is leveraged by its ability to increase efficiencies and create cost savings throughout the inpatient and outpatient setting. However, implementing a new EHR can create tremendous risk in financial losses, analyzing the risk versus the long-term benefit to optimizing care is of great interest.

Electronic Health Records have many forms and, in the future, may connect to a concept of the electronic medical brain. Will technology in the future allow the computer to monitor your blood pressure and blood sugar through a bracelet or other personal device? Translating clinical data to a physician vs. frequent in person provider visits may improve the overall health of the population and create additional efficiencies. Technology in healthcare is transformational. Developing processes to optimize the technology is essential for the success in advancing safety, service, cost and quality.

Focusing on changes that result from a conversion of paper medical records to electronic medical records and its direct or indirect relations to patient outcomes is the project I am interested in exploring. Examining what processes can be developed in the early adoption of an EHR system and the impact of safety, quality and financial outcomes would guide later adopters on evidence that limits risk during implementation.

Jumped out of my comfort zone is the biggest decision in my life. I would keep going and pursuing my dream in FNP. When worked in veterans hospital, I realized that helping people without home or money is one of my wishes. I would enhance my ability and insist it through my life.

Hi everyone! I'm Caitlyn and I've been a nurse for about a year now. I got a spot in Virtua's first residency program that was exclusively for new RNs wanting to be in the ED. It gave me a chance to work at all the Virtuas which was great, but I ended up at Virtua Memorial which I love. Its a community hospital but we see such a crazy variety of stuff and have some really really sick people. Even are docs are amazed at how many people we have to intubate and such. I am about to start in Coopers ED this week, which should be interesting if nothing else. I am currently undecided if I want to do FNP or AGNP, but I am sure i'll figure it out soon. As for my personal nursing passion, I really have a lot of drive for people of a low socioeconomic status and their health. Overall I think that nurses have an amazing amount of compassion for people and my dream is to make an impact on peoples lives like nurses have had an impact on my life.

As for my project I am looking at how to help educate and increase compliance in people of a low socioeconomic status for people with hypertension and diabetes. More specifically how to as a provider find and assess those educational and financial gaps and to better help people overcome them.

The learning and excitement on the unit has outweighed some of the challenges faced in critical care.
Pursuing my DNP will allow me to challenge myself and develop a strong skillset in a variety of nursing aspects.

Hi everyone, my name is Baneet Sawhney and I am currently an RN at Cooper University Hospital. This is my first job in the nursing field and a great start to my career. I work on a progressive cardiac unit. I hold a bachelor of science in public health and most recently a bachelor of science in nursing. Both degrees were done from Rutgers University. I do not have any kids and am not married. Research has always been of great interest for me and I have done two research studies at Rutgers New Brunswick. Most importantly what interests me the most is the correlation of HTN and Diabetes in ethnic minorities. Being from a minority background in America, I am very interested in exploring many of the key factors which may influence these conditions in minorities and even narrow it down to individuals from the continent of Asia. This is of great interest for my capstone project. I further want to work in an underprivileged clinic and be able to serve those in need. I also want to teach at the university level, that is why I chose the DNP in family.

A number of faces I recognize through my journey here at Rutgers Camden for my RN-BSN and there are a number of new faces as well. I look forward to working with you all.

Nursing is a second career for me. I initially graduated from Bentley College (now University) in 2006 with a degree in Marketing. I then graduated from a hospital based diploma program and worked in Emergency and Trauma ER nursing. Working in a wide range settings, (such as Critical Access Hospitals, Rural, Suburban, and the inner city), it has given me a healthy appreciation of the disparities/potential needs of the patients and on how to translate them access different delivery models.

Recently, I have transitioned from bedside into nursing leadership within the Westchester Medical Center Health Network at Good Samaritan Hospital as a nursing supervisor.

For my DNP capstone project, I have am still in the beginning stages of topic development. Some topics I am interested by are:

1) patient throughput through various stages in the hospital (ED to the floor; Floor to Discharge)

2) The utilization of 'Big Data' is one that has had limitations in science and healthcare. I would like to better understand the challenges and possibilities of using Big Data to implement Evidenced Based Practice changes to the benefits of the patient population.

Hello, my name is Nathan Tran. I graduated from Jefferson University. I use to work in a Med Surge floor at Our Lady of Lourdes. I learn a lot of different skill there. While I was working at Lourdes, I also work at an Urgent care. It is like night and day working at those places, but thank to working at the urgent care I am able to work side by side with the doctor. Therefore, if I ever have any question, they are right there to answer it and I had a lot of question. After That, I decided to work in the ER and Lourdes to learn even more. I thought was good, but oh my gosh, once I began orientating, I was like a baby just learning how to crawl not ever walk, crawl! It was really fun working at different places. No matter where I work there is always something new to learn.
