         <title>Enhancing the Urban School Experience for Latinos through the Examination of Global Perspectives</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Are all students served equally in schools?  Do they all have the same resources and supports?  What exactly is happening in our schools that some of our scholars are at such a disadvantage as they are prepared to be college and career ready?  As we see the emergence of numerous enclaves of culturally and linguistically diverse learners (CLDL), it is important to examine the approaches to those populations, specifically Latinos, the needs of this population and how linguistic minorities are accommodated to have an equal opportunity at academic success as students.  This includes examining best practices, strategies and models that are utilized by our urban school systems specifically secondary schools here in the US and abroad that serve growing Latino communities.  This research will focus on the institutional school supports that encompass things like identifying student needs, scheduling, planning, and staffing.  The pedagogical or teacher support that encompasses aspects of the manner in which teachers see their role in support of CLD students and how they support the students in school around second language acquisition and general academic supports.  The systems of support are rounded out by the social emotional element which encompasses the aspects of unique cultural circumstances that plague Latino populations and how those needs are identified and addressed in schools.  This research will help to create a global education model to take the place of the current under-performing academic landscape for Latinos so the cultivation of college and career ready Latino students will become the norm.  <br> <br>           <em>What is </em><strong><em>cultural </em></strong><em>and </em><strong><em>linguistic diversity</em></strong><em> and why is it important?<br><br><br><br><br><br><br><br><br><br></em><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The purpose of the research is to examine the structures, teacher practices and social emotional supports of Latinos that exist in secondary schools in the US and in other countries to develop a global educational model to serve students in urban areas.   Urban secondary schools need to nurture and create college and career ready Latino students who are ready to use their gifts and talents in a competitive global market.  However, most Latino students are not able to transition beyond high school with the necessary tools to continue their education or secure lucrative employment.  Schools are not serving the unique needs of Latino and creating standards of service in preparing them to be as successful as their English-speaking counterparts.       <br><br></div>]]></description>
