Research in psychology and criminology shows that animal abusers tend to repeat their crimes as well as commit similar offences against members of their own species. This phenomenon is known to law-enforcement and humane professionals as “the link”. This refers to the cycle of violence and how it repeats itself. Animal cruelty is on a ‘sharp rise’. The RSPCA said that they had reports of animal abuse coming in every 5 minutes in summer. They said that 2,477 dogs, 1,923,424 mice, 147,196 rats, 8,933 rabbits, 64 horses and 1,815 non-human primates went through different kinds of experiments. Sadly, most of these animals, after going through terrible lab tests, were eventually killed so their organs could be taken. The RSPCA’s figures reveal a 22% increase in reports of beatings in 2022 compared to the previous year, having 9,658 incidents reported to them. August of 2022 dealt with the most abuse, having 35 reports daily. The killing of cats rose by 15% with 891 cases reported in 2022. This report mentions the rising rates of animal abuse in the UK this year. They say that ‘animal abuse is being fueled by social media, with people sharing videos and photos of dead and injured wildlife and pets’. They say that there was a 23% increase in attacks on animals using weapons such as air guns, slingshots and catapults. This changed from 300 in 2022 to 370 in 2024. The report showed a clip where one of the men was pulling the deer across the road. This report also included facts like there were 44,800 cases in the UK from January to June.
