The next morning once she is in the rain she never wants to get out and do what she has to. Now that it was raining her father was hired by Mr. De La Flor to do another job for him. All the farmers were thankful for the rain there was and that the dust was gone.
- Naomi Hyman

Billie Jo is talking about her father, how he stares at her at the dinner table, how he spends all day digging for the electric-train folks, working at the farm tending to the wheat, or digging the pond. He sings even through all the sorrow she compares it to ma's, Miss Freeland, and MadDog's voice she then compares her dad to herself saying they are the the same for example rubbing their eyes with their palms out and wipes the milk from his upper lip the same way. She thinks about how dad feels to wake up without ma, she then compares her dad to ma saying he always smelled like her first thing in the morning after she compares him after ma had dies saying he smelled of dust, coffee, tobacco and cows. Billie Jo thinks her dad stares at her because he is trying to find ma,but she ends that by saying he won't find her because she is too much like him and that she is her fathers daughter.
Ariella Nicolosi
