This is truly where my creative journey begins. I had the idea at the beginning of the project to do a piece of overthinking where I have a hand ripping half of a head open. I was planning on having half of a normal face and half of a face being tormented. So in this picture, after some research on how to make a head, I began to make a nose that I would obviously refine later, and dig out the eye sockets.

In this picture I'm practicing some facial features before putting them on my piece. I cut the head in half as I was planning on putting it on the wall facing outwards. The eyes took awhile to practice and I could never seem to get it right. The mouth was just a rough sketch on my piece that I knew I would for sure go back and fix.

This was my first attempt on putting the eyes on my piece, I was not happy with them at all and it took my over 20 retries and until the end of the project where I finally got it right. Putting them on the actual piece is a lot more nerve wracking and scary.

My idea for the snake was for it to be symbolic of my inner demon, for the snake to have taken control. I wanted for the snake to be realistic enough for you to be able to tell it was a snake without going into crazy detail as the face was taking much longer then suspected. For the type of snake that I'm referencing in my piece, I chose the black mamba. I chose this snake because they are known to be very venomous and very aggressive. I wanted the snake to represent my inner demon so after research I chose a snake that was very scary to come across.

The last time was the hardest because it was at the end of my project and the clay was dry.

This is my final piece, I fixed the eye as before it was way too flat and big, I asked my table patterns on what else looked weird about it as it did not look normal. They came to the conclusion that the realistic side was missing an eyebrow, so we added one, and also finished the snake design in the background. To add a bit more to the piece we made the edges of the background curvy to go with the whole theme of my project. Other than that, this is my final picture and how my project came out.

This picture represents my first part of hollowing out the head, it was still very thick as you can see so I went back and carved it out a lot more. I also went in and hollowed out the snakes body tail and head. That process was a lot more complicated than you may think for me. The snakes body broke off twice and we decided because we didn't know if it was hollow or not to just carve out the entire thing other than the top shell. The tail was easy, and the head we also after the last time it broke just carved out underneath where the audience couldn't see.

This is truly where my piece took a turn. I realized I did not have enough time to make a realistic face, and a hand, because both of those take a long time. So I then had a random idea of a snake. My plan was to make two holes on the side and top of the head where the snakes body would go through, the head of the snake through the eye socket, and the tail of snake through the mouth.

Finding a topic to try and create was the hardest part for me. When I heard the prompt and saw what peers have sculpted in the past all I was thinking was how lucky I was that nothing like that has happened to me. It was a random day where the idea came to me, and it was perfect. My project is based around overthinking and how your inner demon sometimes takes over. Throughout my life I've always been one to overthink everything. And especially when we started this project, I just started to talk to someone I like and after every conversation I would overthink whether what I said was stupid or I would create fake scenarios in my head that I knew would probably not happen. My first idea for this project was to have a hand ripping the side of the face open, to show how I'm just hurting myself. Then the snake idea came to me. It was after I had already made the face and had it hollowed out when the snake idea came into my imagination. The snake itself doesn't represent anything specific other than how that's my inner demon. For the type of snake, I did research to find out which snake would fit the best for my project and found the black mamba. I chose this snake because of its personality traits, the black mamba is a very aggressive and venomous snake, so to represent my inner demon, I chose one of the scariest snakes out there. From first looks at my project all you see is a snake going through a face, but there is a lot more of a deeper meaning to me. It represents my overthinking, how at all times when even if I look normal (right side of the face), my personal inner demon (left side of the face), is always messing with my mind.
