It provides additional time for seed dispersal across a wide extent of distances, or for seasonal dormancy cycling. <br><br>Classification is based on the developmental timing of dormancy onset (Taiz <em>et al.</em> 2015):<br>1. <strong>Primary dormancy</strong> - induced by ABA, in which seed germination is blocked <br>a. <strong>Embryo dormancy</strong> - inherent to the embryo<br>b. <strong>Coat - induced dormancy</strong> - physiological dormancy facilitated by the seed coat<br>2. <strong>Secondary dormancy</strong> - induced in seeds capable of germinating immediately, upon ripening, as exposed to unfavorable conditions</div>]]></description>
