The former slaves managed to hold off the French and British forces who arrived in 1793 to conquer the colony. they withdrew from Haiti in 1798 after a series of defeats by l’Overture’s forces. By 1801 l’Overture expanded the revolution, conquering  Spanish colony of Santo Domingo. The 1848 Revolutions in the Italian states,  organized revolts in the states of the Italian peninsula and Sicily, the revolution was not led by one specific person, but led by people who desired a liberal government. Italian nationalists sought to eliminate reactionary Austrian control.
the revolution was eventually lost, and the people overpowered.
