The artist of this piece is Sandy Kurt a self-taught who made this in 2017. It was one of her first paintings using Islamic geometric patterns. Before this, her artwork didn't sit well, so she started drawing mandalas. She thought it was funny but still thought free drawing was frustrating. The shapes in this piece include different stars, quadrilaterals, and hexagons; the pattern is symmetric with all shapes having a point or multiple. The purpose of this piece is to get out information about Islamic geometry because she found that there is a lot of interest in that type of artwork

How I Started with Islamic Geometric Patterns

This is a piece called the Terracotta Pyxis, though the artist is unknown. It takes inspiration from Mycenaean and Protogeometric pyxides wooden boxes. The Terracotta Pyxis appeared in Athens around 850 50 BCE. The lid handle is surmounted by a small reproduction of the pyxis, including a conical handle often found on vessels of this type. A consistent pattern is visible throughout the whole piece with the geometric pattern consisting of right angle turns of a line to make up a snake movement that goes around the entire bottom half of the box and has other patterns like zigzags on the lower part. The box was used for personal and cosmetic items. Terracotta pyxis (box with lid) | Greek, Attic | Middle Geometric II | The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The sand mandala above was created by Tibetan Buddhist monks. There are many different shapes and colors included in the mandala, all of which serve a communicative purpose. All Tibetan sand mandalas are created to tell a story, represent the universe, or represent something from our world. No two sand mandalas are the same. This particular one represents "the human journey from ignorance to Buddhahood".
