An important object I have is all of the pictures my mom has taken though-out my life. I have pictures and videos from a newborn until today. These pictures mean a lot to me because I have visuals of things I can't remember but I can see because she captured those moments. I am also a very photogenic person who loves taking pictures and capturing moments that I can look back on later in life.

Growing up, a lot of people assumed I was mixed because of how long and curly my hair is. A lot of people assume that black girls have short hair that does not curl. I did not notice this assumption until I got to high school and it offended me because I am black and we do have nice hair like other cultures. Even though people make negative assumptions about black women and their hair, I never wanted to change the way my hair looked. These assumptions did not affect my confidence. I love being a brown woman with very thick hair.

A time where I felt discomfort or fear was when I had to move to Georgia my Junior year of high school. I am a very shy person and I was scared of having to meet new people and adjust to a new setting. I was so used to how school was back in Miami, and going to school in Gwinnett County was a major difference. This picture was taken a week before my graduation and it shows how happy I was. I ended up making friends and finally got adjusted to the school and my new living area.

I do not enjoy reading at all. Back in early elementary school, I loved to read because those were the books with a lot of pictures. During the week , I read the course readings and on social media. Most of the time I am on Instagram and Tik Tok. I also checks both of my emails daily during the week.

The literacy practices I engage in the most is texting. I am a person who likes to text instead of talking to people. It is very hard for me to talk to people about my thoughts or feelings in person. I rather do it over text being that I can't open up in person. Texting keeps me content and happy because I can talk to family and friends who are far away from me and that I barely get to see. Whenever i need advice from my aunt or best friend, who live in Florida, I send over a text message and they always give the best advice or cheer me up when I am down.

A book that is important to me is "Oh, the Places You'll Go" by Dr. Seuss. As a kid, I did not really understand the meaning behind the book. It was not until I got to college and had to do an assignment with this book and I finally understood what Dr. Seuss meant. I can relate to this book because it makes me look at my journey in life, and what I overcame, and Dr. Seuss mentions all of the bumps in the road and twists and turns you'll experience on your journey. The goal is to keep working hard and keep going after you experience these bumps in the road.

Strength on Teaching Cultural Diverse Students

One strength I have when it comes to teaching culturally diverse students is getting to know the students. I have conversations with them to learn more about them and build that trust between us two. This would make the students feel that they are important. Also, this would build a safe learning environment for the students. I chose this picture because my niece feels safe with me and always gives me random hugs and that is how the students in field are with me. I have conversations with them daily about them and any important things they have going on in their lives. This builds that teacher student bond and trust.

One fear I have about teaching diverse students in a culturally diverse school setting is saying the wrong thing. I fear that I may make a mistake and say something that may offend a student or their parent, even though that is not my intent to offend any of my students. I want all of my students to know that I care about them as individuals and no one is better than the other.

A time where I stood up for something was back in June of 2020, when there was a "Black Out", on Instagram. The black out was a movement for police brutality and paying respects to all of the people who lost their lives at the hands of the police. To participate, you had to post a black picture, and put a hashtag that says "#Instagramblackout". I did not attend any protest only because they can get ugly. The blackout was important to me because, I have a dad and two brothers who I fear losing because they were being racially biased.
