The Myth of Dewi Sri

Once upon a time, Batara Guru commanded all the gods and goddesses to contribute their power in order to build a new palace. Anybody who disobeyed this commandment were considered lazy and would lose their arms and legs.
Hearing the Batara Guru’s commandment, Naga god was very anxious because he didn’t have arms or legs. He might not be able do the job. So he asked advice from Batara Narada who was the younger brother of Batara Guru. Unfortunately Narada was also confused. The Naga god became very upset.
While the Naga god was crying for his bad luck, three teardrops fell on the ground. Not long after that, those teardrops became three beautiful shining eggs which looked like jewels. Then Batara Narada advised him to offer those shining eggs to Batara Guru.
With the three eggs in his mouth, the Naga god went to the Batara Guru’s palace. On the way, an eagle asked him a question. Surely Naga god could not answer the question because he was holding the eggs in his mouth. Seeing that, the bird thought that Naga god was arrogant and the bird attacked him.
Being attacked, one egg fell to earth. Then Naga god was hiding in the bushes but the bird was waiting for him. The bird attacked for the second time and one egg fell again. So Naga god only had one egg in his mouth. He kept moving to Batara Guru’s palace.
Finally Naga god arrived at the palace. He offered the egg to the Batara Guru. And miraculously the egg hatched became a very beautiful baby girl. Naga god gave the baby girl to the Batara Guru. In a field one summer’s day a grasshopper was hopping about, chirping and singing to its heart’s content. An ant passed by, bearing along with great toil an ear of corn he was taking to the nest.
“Why not come and chat with me,” said the grasshopper, “instead of toiling and moiling in that way?”
“I am helping to lay up food for the winter,” said the ant, “and recommend you to do the same.”
“Why bother about winter?” said the grasshopper; we have got plenty of food at present.” The Ant went on its way and continued its toil.

Once upon a time, a happy family lived in a kingdom in Priangan Land. They were a father in the form of a dog, his name was Tumang, a mother who was called Dayang Sumbi, and a child who was called Sangkuriang. One day, Dayang Sumbi asked her son to hunt with his lovely dog, Tumang. After hunting all day, Sangkuriang became desperate and worried because he hunted no deer. Then he thought of shooting his dog. After that, he took the dog's liver and carried it home.

Soon, Dayang Sumbi found out that it was not deer lever but Tumang's dog. So, She was furious and hit Sangkuriang's head. In that incident, Sangkuriang got wounded, and a scar was cast away from their home.

Years passed, and Sangkuriang traveled to many places and finally arrived at a village. He met a beautiful woman and fell in love with her. When they were discussing their wedding plans, the woman looked at the wound on Sangkuriang's head. It matched her son's wound, who had left several years earlier. Soon she realized that she had fallen in love with her son.

She couldn't marry him, but how to say it? Then, she found the way. She needed a lake and a boat to celebrate their wedding day. Sangkuriang had to make them one night before sunrise. He built a lake. With dawn just a moment away, the boat was almost complete. Dayang Sumbi had to stop it. Then, she lit up the eastern horizon with flashes of light. It made the cock crowded for a new day.

Sangkuriang failed to marry her. He was outraged and then kicked the boat. The dove quickly put off a leaf from a tree and dropped it immediately into the water near the struggling ant. Then the ant moved towards the leaf and climbed up there. Soon it carried her safely to dry ground. There was a hunter nearby who was throwing out his net towards the dove, hoping to trap it in this way. The king invited all the fairies in the kingdom to ask for their blessing. But the king only invited 12 fairies, so the 13th fairy cursed the little princess. Then one day the queen gave birth to a beautiful little daughter named Princess Aurora.  When she fell asleep, all people in the kingdom were fell asleep too. The king and queen of the kingdom had to get rid of all the needles in the palace.

Years later, a prince from a distant land approached the kingdom and kissed princess aurora. Eventually they became lovers and lived happily ever after.
