         <title>The first known immortal cells (HeLa Cells)</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The first "immortal cells" were from a woman named Henrietta Lacks. The cells were part of a cervical tumor that Henrietta had and once they were harvested, they were given to Johns Hopkins scientist George Gey. This sample was very different from other samples that Gey had studied before, they were purple and jelly like, but these cells were no ordinary cells, they just kept dividing and dividing and dividing! Gey soon realized that he had discovered the first line of immortal human cells, he named them HeLa cells after Henrietta Lacks.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Normal human cells have built in regulators that limit how many times they can divide until they self destruct, but cancer cells ignore these limits and just keep dividing. Though they ignore these limits, cancer cells still have to die at some point right? Normally yes, but not HeLa cells, HeLa cells just keep going and we cant really explain why.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Ethical problems with the mass production of HeLa cells</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>When Gey learned that he had discovered the first immortal cells, he shipped them off to locations all over the world and soon they were being mass produced. This sounds like a good thing right? Sort of. Henrietta Lacks and her family didn't even know about the cells until decades after they had been harvested, let alone consented for them to be publicly used. So yes though this was an amazing scientific discovery, it was done in a horrible way, though generally great achievements do come at the detriment of others.</div>]]></description>
