Although we can reach the common core standards on the website, I prefer using the app because it is always readily available and simple to use. I’ve used it multiple times through my time at Point Loma and I find it exceedingly helpful when I need to lesson plan. The simplicity of the app and how it is organized and updated to the present CCSS makes it an invaluable tool to teachers.

Google classroom, and other Google apps are especially helpful in collaboration and creativity. I find that utilizing Google apps such as docs, slides, and drive can help students stay organized and collaborate effectively with one another. It also provides a single, coherent space for teachers to see everyone’s work and easily access it.

If Google Classroom is not an option, some schools use Microsoft instead. Microsoft Teams and Office 365 both provide the same collaborative and creative atmosphere for students to work together in new, exciting and productive ways. Like Google, it also gives the teacher one spot to clearly access all students work.

Nearpod provides teachers with the ability to streamline lessons that are premade and completely interactive. Teachers can cast lessons onto student devices and monitor them as a whole class. It can also be used for distance learning using any web-based platform. Nearpod provides collaboration in fun and exciting ways as well through assessments, polls, games, and more. Nearpod also provides VR experiences for schools that are able and AR computer software for even more interactive learning.

Flocabulary is by Nearpod and provides teachers with hip hop videos and activities to teach students in any subject. All of the videos are lined up with the CCSS and implement the three elements of the UDL. After watching a short clip of one of the videos provided about point of view, I can see myself using this in my own middle school English class. Something similar that I would use in my undergrad (but wouldn’t use for middle schoolers) is a YouTuber named Thug Notes that breaks down stories in a way simpler way. Flocabulary is similar to this and makes content easier to understand using music.

Everybody knows about Kahoot. It’s been around for awhile now but still provides teachers with a fun way to quickly assess students learning. It makes for a fun interactive experience that all students can get involved in, but I’ve used it as a studying tool myself. Kahoot is a great way to get students involved and to informally check for understanding.

It’s similar to presentation apps like Google Slides and Powtion and is easy to use. Explain Everything is great for notes, presentations, videos, and other forms of expressing ideas.

CommonLit is created by former teachers and provides standard-driven, leveled, digital library full of short stories, news articles, poems, and more. It also provides formative assessment tools to help teachers target instruction and support students who are falling behind. It also makes it easy for teachers to share lessons and readings with students as well as track their progress. The site does require a subscription though, but does have a free membership.

More of a tool than a resource, Flubaroo makes it quick and simple to grade, assess averages scores, see what students are struggling where, and allows teachers to display all of this information on an easy to read graph. I’ve used Flubaroo in a “Technology for Educators” class at CSUB as an add-on to Google Sheets. It automatically highlights low-scores and averages to allow teachers to easily see what areas need more support. I found it extremely useful and time consuming in that class.
