Something I took from the article was that the protests of the 60’s and 70’s had a direct goal in mind. That their protest organizations worked because they themselves had organized. There was a specific goal in mind and knew what to ask for. Today however is not the same. With the protests against Trump and his administration the goals are too wide spread. We’re not able to accomplish major feats because we all have a different idea of what is most important. It is something that the left side has struggled with for a while now.

I found this article to be brilliant! As a woman; especially one of color I really identified with the women in the article. Women are constantly told to sit down and be quiet. From our emotions to our choices; as women we have no real capability to make our own decisions. We need men to come in and save the day. However, the women who are featured in the article show real strength and power. They show that they’re in control and not to be pushed around!

What was ACT UP trying to achieve? How were its tactics different from those seen in India, Denmark and the American Civil Rights movement? How were they similar?

ACT UP seemed to really want to leave the images up for interpretation. These tacts were different from the movements we’ve seen previously because their were no rallies or sit-ins. This was just pictures, so no confrontation in the streets or restaurants, but rather a different kind of presence. They were similar in the ways of having a real issue to target. Even though ACT UP hit a bunch of topics, the other movements still had a variety within the protests.

Consider “Queers Read This”: What role did anger play in this movement? Where did that anger come from? Why is the term ‘queer’ powerful to the movement?

The anger comes from the victims being treated less than human. That their problems came from being gay. So essentially they brought this on themselves. The anger then fueled the movement to get them organized. It allowed for them to have a voice. When it comes to the term “queer” it was used in such a way that gave them power. It allowed for them to take back the word and change it for the better.
